In a letter to Enquirer publisher American Media, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Fields says the cover is "disgraceful and lurid" and will cause the actor "hundreds of millions of dollars of professional and personal damages, for which we intend to hold American Media, and everyone who participated in the perpetuation of this scurrilous attack, jointly and severally liable." He is demanding a retraction of the story, which hit stands on Wednesday.

Is Fields just a little heavy handed with the hyperbole here?

If Tom Cruise has a problem with the National Enquirer publishing exaggerated info about him, he should first take a look at himself and his beloved scientology. Tom seems to have no problem with scientology's version of the National Enquirer, called "Freedom Magazine". Even though only a few hundred people actually read scientology's "Freedom Magazine", this Tom Cruise-supported piece of trash is a disgusting work of hate-inspired, vicious lies and stories made up for one reason- to destroy the reputations of anyone who dares to tell their stories of abuse at the hands of scientology. Scientology's Freedom Magazine is created by scientologists who are following LRon's policies on how scientology is to deal with its "enemies" or any person who expresses criticism of scientology.

Tom's millions in donations to scientology directly pay for the creation of scientology's "Freedom Magazine" and its lies and vicious attacks on innocent ex-members of scientology: it's job is to ruin and destroy lives. The National Enquirer does not even come close to Freedom Magazine's bottom dwelling methods of fake "reporting". And both of these rags have the same goal. To make money. The purpose of Freedom Magazine is to get the scientology paying public to fork over more and more of their hard-earned cash in order to "fight SPs".

So Tom, if you have a problem with this sort of thing, in scientology jargon, it's called the "overt-motivator sequence", aka YOU PULLED IT IN. Whining about the National Enquirer will only shine more light on your support of your ugly cult and it's own ugly RAG which is much uglier than the NE could ever be.

Maybe NE should do a follow-up story about how Tom supports scientology's "Freedom Magazine". And perhaps Bert Fields should advise Tom to back off, that is, if he really cares about Tom's "reputation". Because the NE will never be able to accomplish the same level of damage that Tom himself does to his own reputation through his support of a clearly dangerous and abusive cult.

I believe the expression is -- sue my ass!

This is an empty threat because CoS do not want the TomKat story to stay in the news, which is exactly what will happen in event of a lawsuit.

The National Enquirer is widely recognized as a highly legitimate, well respected and extremely accurate news source.

If you believe that would you like to buy a bridge? Oh, you're already doing that.

Exactly. I'd pay to watch a dvd of the deposition.

Tom and the cult want this to go away, so they are rattling their sabers, but if this and any other tabloid stand their ground, Bert will quietly go away.
