Jack Reacher 2 slumps to 9th with a little over 3 million in its 4th weekend *

I predict there won't be a Jack Reacher 3, but there will be more Dr. Strange and Madea movies. Cumberbatch is SO much bigger a star than Cruise, is taller, ** 14 years younger,** deeper voice,*** and has a much more appealing life story with he and wife expecting baby number 2.

** the right height and age are cruelly superficial but they help sell action movie tickets.

*** Action heroes with deep expressive voices, like Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hanks, and Patrick Stewart, have long careers. Cruise has a medium okay voice for a boy wonder, not so great when he ages out of boy wonder roles.

Benedict Cumberbatch comes from a theatrical family. He has extensive experience doing live performances. That means he knows how to stay in character despite on set mistakes. That makes him an asset for film because he produces more usable footage. He knows how an audience responds to what he does. He knows about timing and how that relates to an audience. He can perform a very broad range of roles. He disappears into the character he's playing. The man has skills that will keep him in the forefront of the business for a long time to come.
