The CoS-designed Super Power Building is a clunker; the Gold Base "castle" looks like a prison with a fancy roof, in Gillman Hot Springs, CA. CoS's new buildings are boring imitations with chopped-up roofs, at Saint Hill, E. Grimstead, England. CoS can't create charm, they can only buy it, like they did with the LA Celebrity Centre.

The Celebrity Centre pitches itself as an exclusive retreat for celebrity* Scientologists, where celebrities take courses shielded from ordinary members and of course non-members, using celeb-only private entrances. How does this benefit the LA community, and deserve property tax breaks?
The Celebrity Centre restaurant is a little more welcoming, supposedly even open to the public (see if they let you in, Tony Ortega!). How does an ordinary business like a restaurant deserve property tax breaks?

* which consist of
- real and donating CoS celebrities like Jenna Elfman (OK c-list celebrities)
- CoS members in the arts and show-biz community that have potential for fame and donations
- CoS members who donate big bucks, even if they are dentists with no show-biz talent.

Part of the Celeb Centre mystique is the secret entrance and no-public-list-of-graduates. Non-celebs like my relative have their courses publicly listed in Scientology magazines, but you don't see Tom Cruise's courses listed. Partly this is so nobody can ask him, "Hey how was OT 3? Didja like Xenu and the volcanoes?" A semi-Scientologist like Will Smith might secretly take courses, to make Tom Cruise happy, while preventing mockery from late night comedians.
