What really amazes me is that they must have spent a considerable sum on organising this event yet the prize money is embrassingly pathetic.

After selecting 12 writing winners and 12 illustration winners, the top four entries in each side of the contest are rejudged to choose two Gold Award winners, each of whom takes home a second trophy and a check for $5,000.
They are as tight as a camel's arse in a sandstorm.
The lack of financial reward wouldn't be so bad if the award actually meant something but it doesn't really, especially after the bad press.
