While I am not a Christian, I find the following
passage to be among my favorite from the Bible:

Love is patient
Love is kind
It does not envy
It does not boast
It is not proud
It is not rude
It is not self-seeking
It is not easily angered
It keeps no record of wrongs
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects
Always trusts
Always hopes
Always perseveres
Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Dr. Phil, it's not working for me AT ALL. I'm not ready to drop my body yet, and it's starting to fall off too soon. -- LRH

From Margaret Mead:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, commited citizens can change the world.

Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

I-Loki,

That is where all change begins. That, and keeping the world from changing you for the worse just because hard times come around. I was talking to one of the elderly bag ladies, short a residence (again) because the government benes that enabled her to afford housing were cut off and even though she is part of a group and the group has a lawyer, it will be at least a year before things get straightened out and they have housing again.

She's one of the lucky ones. Her post-age-65 social security benes are on direct deposit. So she eats well.

I see her fairly often, and I've never seen her angry. That's one reason I talk to her. When I'm 65, I will have a hard time not being furious if Social Security won't pay for a room somewhere.

From a birthday card:

The best way to look young is to stand next to older people.

Get the hell away from me!

Ten Tiger's posting of that bible passage reminded me of something from Frank Herbert's Dune.

"Much that has been called religion has carried an unconscious attitude of hostility towards life. True religion must teach that life is filled with joys pleasing to the eye of God, that knowlege without action is empty. All men must see that the teaching of religion by rules and rote is largely a hoax. The proper teaching is recognized with ease. You can know it without fail because it awakens within you that sensation which tells you this is something you've always known."

Of course there are other quotes that I like too;

"Approximately 50% of the population is of below average intelligence." --Unknown

"An act of congess can pass a law making something illegal, but nothing short of an act of God can make it wrong" --Unknown

"Those who would trade freedom for safety shall have neither"

"Those who beat their swords into plow shares will plow for those who didn't"

"I'll pretend to work as long as they pretend to pay me."

"Religion stops a thinking mind." --Unknown, but seen on a bumper sticker that was obviously criticizing the pro-life crowd's "Abortion stops a beating heart" stickers.

Some bumper stickers I've seen:

"The 2nd Amendment, America's original 'homeland securty' plan."

"Censorship: because information control is people control"

"Drugs are a pass/fail IQ test"

"Religion stops a thinking mind." --Unknown, but seen on a bumper sticker that was obviously criticizing the pro-life crowd's "Abortion stops a beating heart" stickers.

Hello, Lee. "God was my copilot but we crashed in
the mountains and I had to eat him." Bumper sticker
on the back of my Jeep, also features a happy face
with a sheepish grin and a piece of robe hanging
out of his mouth. :)

Hurts so good
Come on baby make it hurt so good
Sometimes love don't feel like it should
You make it hurt so good.
