I haven't seen a topic on this yet, but I realize a lot of people here have heard about it by now. Before the proverbial shit hits the fan, please allow me to explain what happened, to prevent misunderstanding.
A few days ago, someone hacked into Sarah Palin's email account and published the contents on wikileaks. This person is a member of Anonymous. Predictably, the media are on it, there have already been TV interviews, etc etc.
Two factors are important here:
1. There are two groups called Anonymous. The first (original) is a hacker/troll group who do exactly this sort of thing. This is the group that organized the first global protest. After February, the group split in two: "Anonymous 1" continued hacking and trolling, while "Anonymous 2" became a peaceful anti-Scientology protest group. There is plenty of overlap between the two groups, but they are NOT the same. The Sarah Palin hacks happened entirely
within the scope of "Anonymous 1", and have nothing to do with the group that fights Scientology.
2. The hacking was done by one independent individual. It was not an organized group action, and Palin was never a "target". The leaks are also not allowed on 4chan, and all threads containing illegal content are deleted there immediately.
I hope that clears up a few things. This whole thing is going to bite us in the ass a few times over, but we'll live... after all, Chanology isn't about us or our name - it's about fighting the cult.
