My condolences to Linda's husband, daughters, and the rest of her family.

The fact that a Mission would to locate in Sunland/Tujunga suggests to me that the mission holder was perhaps doing an amends project by opening the least costly mission possible. A storefront rental in the area would be cheap. Better yet, no one would bother breaking in to steal LRH books and DVD's. Good luck on anyone taking on a mission in a bleak area. What would work, what is needed, is an ESL program and a food bank for for poor families trying to get established in America. That is what CoS would do if it wanted to make a difference in that area. CoS could offer free flu shots at the mission. That would be a way to dissem good PR to the local community. Why doesn't CoS ever do what real charities and churches do to help people? Why is CoS always a sales transaction?

Of course you are right again. So how can Cof$ impact a blighted area like this? EASY!!!! I'm sure that research done by DM will discover that there were other espees on Ron's lines way back when that supressed some of his tech that DM can recover ... such things as package store tech, pawn tech, payday loan tech, rent2own tech, beer joint tech, and of course, bail bond tech. Once these lost techs are re-discovered Cof$ will then be able to start clearing the Sunland-Tujunga area, wallet by wallet.

Possibly, but the cult has been working overtime to clue into the Hispanic community and we've seen alot more Hispanics joining the cult in SoCal in the last several years. Whenever, I walk by the HGB, I see large groups of Hispanics going on the Gallery tour. Many of the publics with blue collar service jobs i.e., chimney sweeping, air duct cleaning, maintenance/janitorial) have their businesses in the Sunland/Tujunga area.

What's going on in Sunland/Tujunga? We have a new poster who says the local govt is taken over by Scientologists.

Also, there's this from Immortal on ESMB:

http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthread.p ... ng-results

Quote:
Local Scientologists manipulating voting results
LOCATION: Approximately 20 miles north of the Pac base (Big Blue) in Los Angeles, is a community called Sunland-Tujunga. There are a lot (probably hundreds) of Scientologists who live in this and closely surrounding areas of La Crescenta, La Canada and Lake View Terrace. The Delphi school is also nearby.

HISTORY: Local voting for favorite businesses has been offered to Sunland-Tujunga residents since 2000. Voting for favorites continues for a full year then at the start of the New Year, the winners are announced. They are awarded plaques to proudly display, named in the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council (STNC) newsletter and put on their website.

In 2006, the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council (STNC) took over collecting the votes.

WHAT HAPPENED: Somehow, STNC “inadvertently misplaced” ballots cast for favorite businesses in 2010 effectively sabotaging the results, according to this report. The voting period was extended for a short time, but the end result was that Tomi Lyn Bowling (STNC First Vice President is currently auditing on OTVII) is accused of giving “all the prizes to her Chamber of Commerce and Scientologist friends.”

See the full story here: http://thefoothillspaper.com/

The article is “What, you didn’t know that STNC is corrupt?” Front page and starts on page 2.

There is also a Scientology “good news” newsletter for the area:

http://www.voiceofthevillage.org/iss...3_01012011.pdf

Some of the people mentioned in the Foothills paper are mentioned in this newsletter.

Dear All,
I'm stunned by this thread. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I am going to this location this afternoon to see if it is open. I'll report back to you: my observations. I'm a 50 year resident of Sunland Tujunga and the odd manipulations we residents are enduring to our community and business plans are beginning to make more sense...

Bring a camera! We love photos.

Also, we do this thing called Harpoons. People might be able to help with letter writing or whatever. We just have to know who and where.

And, start a new thread in "Opinions and Debate" so we can discuss. I'm sure there will be plenty of suggestions.

Ugh. Poor unsuspecting angry people who are just trying to manage their anger. This stinks.

I went there last night; there was no activity but a receptionist looked up hopefully as I walked by. The lights to the book and reading room were off probably to save electricity since there was no one other than the receptionist present. Later a young couple in below average dress entered and were given a brochure but did not enter the bookroom. Most people who were about to enter quickly changed their mind when they discovered it was not the entrance to Panda Express, the next door neighbor. There is little or no visible signage. They are essentially a secret location, one would have to know they were there to find them.

My take on this is the Scientology Outreach was much more visible and I remember seeing it when it was in the former location beside the Thrift Store and across from Sunland Park. To quell rising community objections to Scientology and to distance themselves from the large homeless population and poorer people who frequent the thrift store... they moved away from those elements. In fact, leading Scientologists have been actively working to drive the homeless population completely out of the town (rather than help them).

They (Scientologists) are extremely active in the community politic: they are on the Sunland Tujunga Neighborhood Council, the Sunland Tujunga Chamber of Commerce, and the Sunland Tujunga Alliance. They are currently negotiating in private meetings with Los Angeles Councilman Paul Krekorian about changing the the community's Specific Plan (our business corridor) to their way of thinking. Non-Scientology Council members were not informed of these negotiations and a battle erupted revealing the entire community of Sunland Tujunga was excluded from these talks whose outcome will affect them.
