I'd like to moderate the media section of the forum. I'm not interested in policing people's speech, just interested in housekeeping duties such as merging similar threads and moving posts/threads in/out of the media section as appropriate in order to keep it tidy and improve readability. I think my record of maintaining the media section with constant news updates speaks for itself.
Of course if emgergency on-duty moderation is required to stem a board troll/spam flood attack then I'd be there to help deal with that too.

You've definitely been a regular poster and acted with maturity.

Good idea. Let's test this out.

Would it be fair from a moderator's perspective NOT to post his/her opinions? Would this aid in the unbiased manner a "mod" could act? I.E following the Admin's OCMB FAQ credo?

You have to find your way and that is an important question for you to answer. My advice is to be clear about how you play it.

Here's my 2 cents:

I *love* Sponge's posts, so to say "if he does some housekeeping,
he cannot post" would be self-defeating, for many, certainly for me.

If he were a moderator, I could maybe see that, but not really even
there as his posts are always quite factual and excellent info.
However, he's just talking about organizing
the board, which shouldn't change his ability to post his opinions, imnsho.

I guess it's as Andreas says: It's up to us. For me, house keep away, as I know
your record and trust your ability to sort out which goes where.
Also, I appreciate you even offering, Sponge.

Best,

Tory/Magoo

I am very much in favor of Sponge being the mod in the "Media section". Sorry for any confusion. I was thinking more within the "Hot button" topic's on OCMB. Think what I'm trying to get at is how "Does one remain neutral" as a mod,If a passionate and spirited thread arises? Is there literature on this? LoL.

Here's what Sponge said:

See? So I don't see how that would in any way be in conflict. (The bold is my doing, not Sponge's)

He's talking about the media section. So let's say I post a media thread "LA Times Exposes Davey Boy", in the General area.
From what he's saying, he'd merely move it to the Media section. Period.

Hope that helps, and if I'm wrong, jump in, Sponge.

FYI:

I had originally logged onto OCMB as Magoo1, with my old password.
Then Andreas said change it, so I did, and I then couldn't get back on.

So--I created Tory/Magoo.
However, tonight an OCMB friend told me with that, I'd lose all of my old
postings. Since there's such a history here, I decided to work on it, and ta da!

I did it

So just FYI---I, Tory Christman, am both Magoo1 and ToryMagoo.
I'll use this Magoo1 from now on,
I'm pretty sure. But just wanted to let you know---and didn't want to make a whole
thread about it, so just added it here.

Thanks for listening

Tory/Magoo
PS: wooooooooooo hooooooooo! There's my old avatar, also. I couldn't for the life of me
find it, and all of my photos are too big, it said.

The "View active topics" link isn't working quite right. (Goes only to the "Welcome Back" thread.)

Sorry I'm late back to this thread. I see it sorted itself out re Gumby's concerns. I understand Gumby's general comments though (that's why I prefer not to be a global full moderator i.e. I like being the same me)

I think posting in the media section is slightly different to the other forums in that the relevant information needs to be clear and accessible in that first post (it makes it so much easier when coming back to it at a later date for research purposes). With registrations opened up again it is clearly going to need watching over if it is to be kept to the same good standard as before. Posting "here's something interesting" as a title and then dumping nothing else but a blind link is not much use to anyone, especially for future searches.
I'll perhaps start a sticky "idea thread" in there or just an ordinary thread in here with general guidelines on a typical layout of a media post (e.g. the importance of using a good descriptive thread title, media source, publish date, links and enough fair-use quotes so that the important info will always be there should the news media link go dead, or subscription only, in future) and others can throw in some ideas for improving that section too.

It's probably best to start a new thread in this Feedback section for each little bug/quirk you find then Andreas can more easily go through them one by one.

I see Roan is now posting again. Nice to see you back Roan. The club house has gotten a little bigger.
