WTF? Can't we just ban Russian ISP's?

I get you -- it annoys me, and I don't even have to deal with it! But I don't think the mods would want to ban any ISPs from Russia -- it would be the same situation as, say, if someone from the U.S. was spamming -- they wouldn't want to ban all U.S. ISP's in response. This, of course, coming from a woman who can't get her printer to work half the time (!)

I presume it's the russian spam in another subforum that you're on about and is still lingering around after I noticed it yesterday. It was already reported and the spammer banned. Somehow the global mods failed to delete the actual spam. This has been escalated to global mods through the sub-etha wave band and who will be given a cup of tea and counselling.

Spam has been reduced significantly of late because all new members need to have their first few posts approved by admin or a mod. A little inconveient for genuine new users but this was far easier than constantly chasing spam on the boards, especially when there was a flood. Old dormant and undetected spammers accounts that joined before that change may still crop up and post spam but new spammers should be a rarity. There are also ways to game that system if the human spammer is persistent enough, but they rarely are.
Mods have banned aproximately 16 spammers in the last week without anyone here ever seeing their spam.

This thread will be moved to Feedback and help, where all board issues should be posted.
Please feel free to PM on anything that has already been reported with the report button but still not delt with in a reasonable time.

It's spam. Dirty spam. I'm lousy at Russian, but can read the script. Apart from the mobile phones, the I-Pod's, the watches and all other copyright infringed stuff they offer, they also redirect to pages with payed sex. (The words for "prostitutes, sex and penis" are not very different in Russian) I even saw links to pages with probably under age girls. Beware, the links are not mentioned as such. Every sentence is a working link. If you click on a sentence you get redirected to some site with sex, gambling or illegal copies of expensive gear. Once redirected, it's in your computer and can be used against you.
I usually don't buy into conspiracy stuff, but I find this slightly weird.

They use Cyrillic script to pass the spam-filters. People who are interested in this crap know damn well what certain words look like in Russian. I just don't understand why they keep sending their rubbish here if it's only commercial spamming. No porn aficionados and no Russian speakers on this forum, so what's the purpose?

Report the suckers ASAP and DO NOT click on those links out of curiosity. BAD STUFF.
