UK CoS branches 2007

Post by hartley » Mon Jun 18, 2007 5:41 pm

This is I believe an up to date list of CoS branches in the UK. It does not include front groups such as Narconon in Worthing. Corrections and more data please!

There are currently seven Missions:
http://www.smi.org/address/index.htm

Belfast
Bournemouth (at Poole)
Eastbourne
Hove
Southampton
Tunbridge Wells
York

Back in the early 90s according to Chris Owen Chicester, Leeds,
Southampton and York Missions closed, so two of the above are revivals.

Belfast is listed under Ireland, but administratively it and the Mission in Dublin are part of CoS (UK).

Bournemouth Mission was active in 2004 with 24 staff including 3 auditors
and 3 supervisors.

New Missions:

York opening 7 June 2007

This is actually a revival - a previous York Mission closed in 1993. The
article doesn't mention this :-)

Tunbridge Wells opening, late 2005?

The Orgs are
http://www.scientology.org.uk/locator/index.htm

Birmingham
Brighton
East Grinstead
Edinburgh
London
Manchester
Plymouth
Advanced Organisation Saint Hill
Saint Hill Foundation
Sunderland (at Newcastle)

London we believe has a core of about 70 active public scientologists with
a couple of hundred who just do events and stuff, many have done the
bridge or have freeloaders bills.

We think Manchester and Newcastle are downstat, the others are more active.

Saint Hill gets about 800 to 'local' events, ie without bussing from other
Orgs. We assume a lot of these are oldtimers, some dating back to LRH's
time at Saint Hill. Students at Saint Hill mostly come from Southern
Europe nowadays.

Some Missions are 'affiliated' to specific Orgs, I'm not sure what that
means, perhaps that there is not an actual franchised Mission holder.
ARSCC Demographics Department
Still looking for 9,950,000 scientologists.

there has never been an org or mission in Aberdeen. There was a group in Glasgow and the group in Sunderland (started by Mick and Val Alpin) later became the org there.

Does anyone know about the Manchester mission? I passed it by car a couple of weeks ago and it looked empty. And this was around four o'clock when surely they should be having something going on?

The place had furniture but lights were out and no-one home.

I'd have thought a weekday afternoon would be a great time to recruit....

Interesting list of responses to the Times article- usual declarations that they don't have the crazy (but unspecified) beliefs so often reported in the press, but no positive reports from UK resident Scientologists.
Your humble servant,

Lafayette.
