Hopefully, the wheel of justice system will start turning. I am not sure though if Heber is willing to confirm that he has been abused.

That's the beauty of an elder abuse complaint. The investigators who deal with older folks know that elderly are not going to complain due to the risk of being taken from their home. They will decide based on their investigation of his surroundings, and I would be pretty sure they will speak to him away from his handlers, if he wants to tell them anything more. I'd like to see their faces when he shows them the desk he sleeps under, the floor he eats on, no a/c, the beans and rice he eats, etc. Unfortunately, they've been tipped off now, it's on the net, Co$ could change things.

With the Co$ being so money hungry, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't keeping him because he receives a social security check that they conveniently take.

I truly hope this man's life can change during his sunset years.

I'm sure they've prettied up his living quarters, and improved his diet. But overall ill health can't be fixed so quickly.

I used to work as an orderly in a nursing home for 10 months during my college years before they switched me to the housekeeping department (the orderly job is the dirtiest job in the world, you literally swim in feces all day long). In absence of the abuse footage and the witnesses, the only legally acceptable signs of abuse are cuts and bruises on patient’s body. Still, a prosecutor has to prove that the cuts are not self-inflicted, and the bruises were not the result of patient’s falls if she is looking for an intentional harm conviction. She could also go for a lesser charge of patient neglect because the nursing home patients are not supposed to cut themselves with sharp objects and fall on the floor.

I am not sure how the above applies to Heber because he is not living in a nursing home. As Don Carlo wrote, Heber’s living conditions are likely to be improved prior to the inspection. His health might be in a sharp decline, but the CoS lawyers will argue in court that this is due to his advanced age. In my view, for this case to have legs someone must step forward and testify that he/she saw Heber being physically abused. It is unlikely that Heber will be that person because he was bullied into submission by the cult officials. But, perhaps, someone will have enough courage to speak on Heber’s behalf.

There's also financial elder abuse. Working him for pennies per hour would look bad. Alternatively, if Heber gets, say $30,000 a year as President, where is that money going? http://ag.ca.gov/bmfea/pdfs/citizens_guide.pdf

I wonder if it will work. I have learned that often things that you think wont, turn out to be the best cases. I wonder if the state makes the decisions that he can't care for himself, if the will mandate he be out in a privet home that has proper certification or a outside nurse check in on him. I hope he takes the opportunity to ask to leave when the state officials visit.

These are trained social workers making the decisions, not law enforcement. They could have a police escort if requested, I suppose.

To me one of the most striking remarks was Heber's brother saying that Heber told him "he would never get out of there alive". That is a direct statement made to a blood relative, I think it would carry a lot of weight.
