Recently I traveled to a rural area of Virginia where Steven Spielberg shot scenes for War of the Worlds in 2005. Driving around I ran into a lot of locals who were actually involved in the production. One person had taken quite a few snap shots behind the scenes and this person was also involved in other aspects of production.

The person had many photos which they were told was not permitted but they took them any way, secretly. Some of the photos of course were of Tom Cruise. The photos were very curious. Several photos showed Tom Cruise walking around the set being followed by two attractive young ladies, the two young women were wearing similar outfits which I can only describe as "Modern Mennonite". That's what they reminded me, but the outfits were way more stylish. Both women also wore a white cloth head covering, which I can only describe as looking like a big scrunched up sock, kind of exotic, not really a beanie.

I asked the person about these photos and they said that those women were on the set and everywhere Tom Cruise went and that the women did not associate with anybody else, crew, locals or anybody, only Tom Cruise. My first thought was that they were some how scientology related, I mentioned it to the person who took the photos and by their response I could tell that they had come to the same conclusion.

They could have just been your typical Hollywood hanger-ons, but something screamed scientology about this scenario. It's also around the time when Tom Cruise became a really big advocate for COS per Reitman's book. Wish I had copies of the photos, I'll try to get copies of the photos and post them. I'm in touch with the person who took them.

I bet gossip rags would be interested.

That movie had the famous incident where Cruise demanded a Scientology recruiting tent be put on the set. A violation of Universal Studios policy. The Hare Krishna's could have sued and said "we want to put up tents too!"
