I've been in Dublin (Ireland) this week - and what a trip! I was invited by the Literary and Historical Society to participate in a debate on Scientology November 14th at the University College Dublin (UCD). Other debaters were:
  • Prof. Stephen Kent - Scientology specialist of the Sociology Department, University of Alberta.
  • John Duignan - Former Scientologist.
  • Mike Garde - Representative of Dialogue Ireland and anti-Scientology Campaigner.
The Church of Scientology was supposed to be represented by Gerard Ryan, Director and member of Church of Scientology Mission of Dublin Ltd., but he chickened out in the last minute. This is their strategy; they wait until the last minute and make an excuse where they invent a stupid reason blaming it on the critics why they can't attend. Well, all they achieved was looking stupid and guilty! :)

I've met some fantastic people and gotten tons of very valuable information. And had a few pints of Guinness in the evening of course.

There are pictures available on my Facebook account. Also posted about it in the News page on Operation Clambake.

We've been dealing with the Dublin org for a long time over on Topix, and I can't say this surprises me. Too bad really, Gerards brother Dermot was our handler for a long time over there. Here's a special message for the entire clan...

"Brave Sir Ryan ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Ryan turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Ryan!"

Seriously though, shame on you Dermot for not stepping up to this challenge in your brothers place.

Now, as an aside to Daz Simpson, whom I suspect is lurking:

WHERE ARE YOUR PHOTOS FROM THE 'XENU IS LOOSE' PLAY IN EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND WHERE YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO DEBATE THE POSTER 'HEK?'

Photos on Facebook can be viewed by everyone if the owner sends them a special link. Andreas, down the bottom of your photo album it should say in small print

Show people this album by sending them this public link:

except that that one goes to my Scientology photos, not yours!

Nice pictures too.

Good job, Andreas~! (And all that were there).

Man, it looks like a packed house.

Did you get to video tape it? Can we hear it?

You forgot to take your photographer with you~~~ME! Great shots, though, and fun to see you all there.

How would you say it was received? Man, I've wanted to go to Ireland ALL
my life (I'm part Irish!) Next time, can I come ??? :D

Glad you went, talked, and have all these cool photos> Love the hats~
Welcome home :alien:

Best,

Tory/Magoo~~

It was almost packed and it was very well received. Many students have written me after the debate and said they liked it very much. I think UCD is pretty good inoculated... ;)

Three students tried to argue the side of the cult since they were too chicken to come, not the same but at least there was some balance. I was impressed that many students had prepared and had good questions and quotes.

I think it was recorded and will let you know if they publish it.

I don't think Gerard Ryan would have given you much of a debate. I have met him a few times and he didn't strike me as a clever enough to debate anything. He would have trotted out the SP names instead and tried to Black PR which wouldn't have gone down well. I don't know if his brothers could have done better.

If Gerard's brother Dermot is anything to go by, then the Dublin Org were smart to pull out.

Dermot caused quite a flap over his libel and slander of people that won against the Dublin Org in Topix.net

Where would scientology be today if xenu.net and every other resource about the cult of scientology, never survived the war?

:nervous:

Cant wait for the footage or transcriptions :D

I look forward to seeing a video or listening to the debate, if you can acquire it.
