Louis Theroux My Scientology Movie Clip

Post by I'mglib » Thu Apr 07, 2016 6:53 am

I cannot WAIT to see Louis Theroux's movie about scientology.

There's a clip in this report showing Louis butting heads with Katherine Fraser.

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/04/06/tr ... cientology

Katherine Fraser is the former wife of Jeff Hawkins. I ran into her a few times when protesting in front of Gold Base, as well as at the Riverside County board meetings where the scientologists were trying to get a law passed prohibiting protesting.

Gold Base is the CREEPIEST place I have ever been. Having these rabid ideologues get in your face is something you don't forget. The cars are racing by--the cops have no idea who the bad guys are--the guards have no qualms tackling protesters or turning on the sprinklers or whatever it takes. It's just bizarre. This clip definitely brings back memories.

Wow, Louis' calm gentle voice versus Fraser's harsh words. Then Fraser abandons her "you're trespassing" lie because she can't handle a kind interview. Louis warmly asks her to stay - SHE'S not trespassing. The VISUAL film noir quality as Fraser, in a huff gets in her car, and is lit by the dome light. Then the car lights flash on and off as Louis and the Sea Org photog film each other. Please get this film available in major cities, or on the Internet.

Is there any official release date scheduled for this movie? I haven't been able to find one. It just lists film festivals.

Sea Org guards and handlers like Fraser are dumbfounded by kind persistence. They are taught that journalists are lying hateful scum, but then Theroux uses emotional ju jitsu . Ju jitsu students use the opponent's force to make him find himself unhurt but on the floor. We can all learn from Theroux how to DISARM a person in a toxic fit.

Just watched the trailer.
Was gold!

Katherine could not have appeared more vapid and irrational.
What scientology inc doesnt ever seem to grasp is, whilst ever they demonstrably apply scientology, they will forever portray themselves as nucking futs

The Guardian (UK) picks up the story: http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio ... ebchat-bbc
Interviewer: Will My Scientology Movie ever be getting a UK wide release?
Louis Theroux: Yes it will. It's coming later this year to cinemas near you.

There's a thread on Reddit about the movie. I figure if it's on reddit it's in the psyche of the public. Reddit is the front page of the internet!

From an interview with Louis Theroux:

snip:

Rathbun, who’s known by the nickname “Marty,” is in high demand as an interviewee: He held senior positions in the Church of Scientology for 27 years and was Miscavige’s right-hand man until he left in a storm in 2004. Since then, he’s spent most of his time telling the world about Miscavige’s abuse, and verbal and physical violence. Gibney treats Rathbun’s testimony as gospel, but Theroux serves up a far more complex and problematic individual. Theroux responds in the affirmative when I ask him whether Rathbun has seen the film, and adds, “He likes some of it, and some of it he doesn’t like. Which is kind of a good reaction I think, and a reaction you would expect from Marty.”

Did he ask you to delete any of those scenes? For example, when you ask him whether he had an active part in the many instances of mental and physical abuse he now condemns, and he angrily snaps at you.

snip:

“To be honest with you, I still do not know how I feel about that in terms of whether I was right to ask that question. I think you can see that right after I ask it, my reaction is that I sort of wish that I hadn’t asked it. He says, ‘You’re a fucking asshole, that’s a fact, go fuck yourself,’ and I say ‘Alright, I consider myself fucked, now what do we do? How do we move on?’ So it was a tricky moment, but that question has to be asked. In the other Scientology films, we have to take everything these guys say as gospel, but hang on – you were in there for 20, 25 years.”

Any idea when this movie is available to the broad public for free? If Louis Theroux had other intentions but to make money with it, it wouldn't be so difficult to see that movie. Really.

It's going to play at the Toronto International Film Festival next week.

Here's a review:

http://www.broadwayworld.com/bwwtv/arti ... l-20160414
...
The story's told compellingly, with Theroux, seeking understanding, actually casting actors - the casting efforts are shown - to play Miscavige and Scientology's most famous member, Tom Cruise, to act out scenes described by the former Church leaders, including former Church Inspector General and public Scientology critic Marty Rathbun. The scenes not only depict vividly stories that have been told as anecdotes in the past, but allow Theroux to question his interviewees, such as Rathbun and Tom De Vocht, about their recollections of these experiences and the accuracy of memories. BWW Review: MY SCIENTOLOGY MOVIE to Wow Tribeca Film FestivalActor Steven Mango, who has filmed his own testimonial near-documentary of his life in Scientology also appears, adding some real poignancy: he explains that he joined the Church because of ads carefully placed in Hollywood trade magazines suggesting that actors would get better breaks - and achieve Tom Cruise's success -- from attending certain seminars, while we see actors from a casting call auditioning to "become" Miscavige and Cruise on screen.

As word gets out during filming of Theroux' BBC documentary that it is taking place, we see live footage of Scientology reactions: their famed letters from attorneys, the emergence of private detectives tailing Theroux and company, groups of Scientologists harassing Theroux and Rathbun on the street, public access roads to Scientology's Gold Base headquarters being blocked, Scientology staff attempting to sic police on Theroux and his cameramen. It's an ugly, confrontational picture at these moments, handled splendidly by Theroux' calm and his backbone. When filmed by Scientologists seeking to harass, Theroux simply films back, and you're likely to cheer at the sight of harassers backing down and backing away at his cameraman pacing quietly towards them.

Louis Theroux participated in an interview, and guess who/what he gives credit to right off the bat for information about Scientology? CLAMBAKE!

This website and message board is still one of the best places to get critical information about Scientology, after 20 plus years. Bravo Andreas!
