Good points, Simonymous.

Also, I have been thinking about OCMB a lot, and how it could be great.

I think we should set the bar really high.

Over on WWP, one of the mods has the signature, "Don't be an idiot."

Now, I agree with that sentiment whole heartedly, but I think I'd like to advise: "Be awesome."

When I go shopping with my daughter, we use the following yardstick to decide whether we buy something: Is it awesome? If it isn't awesome, we don't buy it.

Now, there are obviously some posters who put a lot of effort into what they post. Swift, for example. Sponge, too. I think Dororthy puts a lot of thought into her posts, as does Caroline. It's been pretty quiet around here lately, so I won't dig too deep into my memory banks for more examples, because hopefully the idea is clear.

Use examples, pictures, docs, links, etc to make a point. Videos, shoops, etc are good, too.

Don't use ad hominems, bad logic, and dismissive language. Most of us are in the same choir here, but it would be great to appeal to others.

I love reading a well thought out post. I think everyone does. Is the tech crap? Maybe. But tell people why. And if you can't be awesome, for Xenu's sake be funny. Funny is a good substitute for awesome.

Also, good points, Tory.

And when I said Boring Narcissist, I was obviously talking hypothetically and definitely not talking about anyone here. Obviously if a boring narcissist wandered over here from some other board, well, they should be welcomed. And then they should be encouraged to BE AWESOME.

I'm Glib,
I hear what you're saying about "BE AWESOME" and here's my two cents,
for whatever it's worth. I know you mean it as you say: "Raise the bar"
Please keep in mind that IF people come here from Scientology, that's exactly
what they just got out of:

Endless evaluation, "Be Uptone", "tone 40" "Don't be a downstat", etc. (and yes, I know
you don't mean it that way). I still think it's key to keep in mind basics that have worked,
for members newly out.

What most need is a safe, friendly place where they can share ~their~ story,
with kind people who are willing to discuss what has happened to them.
Some are literally in various forms of shock. Most people
who have been "in" a cult....have a difficult time even sharing part of their story.
Realize many have never told any
of their story---they've not been allowed to speak out
about how they really feel, or what honestly happened to them.

I know, "grow some balls"--easy to say when you have not experienced what they have, with the 'church' of $cientology.
For many, kid gloves are a good start....which is where I think Andreas'
"Friendly and welcoming" comes from, a bit.

Yes.... great idea to encourage people to add docs, etc. but please #1 make it safe
for anyone to speak out. The personal stories I've read are absolutely amazing. Some
can barely write--when they first contact me. We need to welcome those people, too.

I like you're idea of "be awesome" in life, for sure. Here? I say: communicate, and as you do, try to get better at it. How? Then give some examples, aside from the best posters, who are excellent writers, as many who leave will not be. (I'm working on being awesome, too!)
I hope this helps some, for we who aren't the greatest posters, but like to share experiences.

Probably too long for you, right? LOL....grow some balls, girlie, and thanks for
moderating here! :alien:

I finally noticed that yesterday and fixed it. You could have mentioned it a bit sooner, ya know... ;)

Tory, I actually meant it in the sense that I don't think it's good to claim that "so-and-so sucks," or "I don't like that person so everything they say is wrong." I think we should put some thought into it. And I'm just saying this a as a person who loves OCMB. There are no evaluations here.

Also, I loved this video, btw. This is awesome.

Thanks, now if I can just figure out how to "be awesome", I'll be happy! :)

If I may interpreto-translate what I think Glib’s “be awesome” campaign is all about…Ms. Glib is a cheerleader.

Ms. Glib loves being a human rights activist and she loves helping people and she loves OCMB.

She is the epitome of enthusiasm.

Ms. Glib wants to see everyone step up to the plate, and hit the ball hard, and come sliding into home plate with sweat dripping off their brow and victory singing in their heart and wearing an enormously cheesy grin on their face.

But that’s not an expectation.

That’s a wish.

That’s her wish for everyone.

So please, folks, don’t be threatened by the words “be awesome”.

Just come on out of the shadows. And walk on up to the plate. And whether you swing, hit, or miss, KNOW that Ms. Glib is cheering you on.

Cuz that's her wish for you.

^^^ What she said. ^^^

Also, I agree with everyone that free speech and being a friendly place most important.

Well, I'm overwhelmed with happiness over you three being moderators for this board.

Thanks, Glibby....I'm glad you thought that video was 'awesome'.

I'm not threatened by them.......I just wanted to make a point, knowing how
many people feel once they *finally* get out---that "inclusion" is one of the most
helpful actions we can all do. That's my two cents, for whatever it's worth.

Happily, we have three great moderators and I'm very happy for this =D> =D> =D>

Hey, quick question, which I've bugged Andreas about more than once:
Any chance we could get some, or all of Emma's emoticons over here?
I truly love hers the most. Just a thought---not a big deal.
