I wanted to make the Santa Monica city council aware of what was going on at the Delphi Academy and how I had them on video denying they were Scientology. SM is MUCH more liberal than Riverside so I was hoping to have a better reception to our claims (how could the reception be worse than in Riverside). I arrived at 5:30, filled out a card to speak, and came back again at 9:30. Unlike Riverside, which meets every Tuesday and allows 3 minutes to speak, SM meets the second and fourth Tuesday and speakers are given only two minutes. This meant I had to speak rapidly without the luxury of looking up. Compared to Riverside there were twice as many politicians behind the counter and their attitude was pretty relaxed. I hoped they were not like the bloated overloards of Riverside. That optimism got knocked down fast.

After the last agenda item the mayor said "Let's go home." Ten people in the audience said "What about public comment?" A little old lady activist behind me hissed "That was a Freudian slip!" I said "Do you think he doesn't want us to talk because he wants to go home (it was almost 10 PM) or because he doesn't want to hear from us?" She told me "It doesn't matter what you say, his response is always the same: I know what's best and our employees are doing it."

I was called to speak first. Here is the text of my remarks:

I’m Don Myers from West Hollywood. I’m an Emmy winning animator and Scientology investigative journalist. I come tonight to tell you about the Delphi Academy Santa Monica at 1229 4th street. Protesters know Delphi schools are a cult front group. Yet their website delphisantamonica.org claims they are a non-sectarian private school. The website is a love letter to cult founder and college dropout L. Ron Hubbard. They license Hubbard’s “study technology” which has gotten failing grades from the California and Indiana education departments. Last August I went to the school, stuck a camera in their faces and confronted them about why they claim not to be a religious school. I was there for NINETY SECONDS then left. When I said “Scientology” they denied their cult affiliation and called the police. Later I was slapped with FOUR misdemeanor charges for my 90 second conversation. Theoretically four years jail time. Court info showed that everyone I talked to was a Scientologist. Delphi is designed to indoctrinate children into the cult before they even know what it is. Teachers also question the children and try to find blackmailable info about their parents in case the parents try to pull the kid out. An article in the New Yorker on Monday claims Scientology uses slaves as young as ten and that the FBI has been investigating them since 2009 on human trafficking aka slavery. Your city attorney did nothing to protect these children. Now they are siding with the cult in my case. The city confiscated my videos from a second raid and refuses to give me a copy so I can plan a defense of four MORE charges against me. I urge you to call Delphi headmistress Leslie Toth at 310-526-2700 so she can lie to you in person. She has been in the cult since at least 1981 rank OT6. I have provided evidence on this CD. This was simulcast on KCRW the local Public Radio station. Unfortunately, I am told by a listener that, because I spoke at exactly 10 PM the radio station inserted a station ID during the middle of my speech! It will also be on cable TV and I hope to get a clip off the net eventually. I am told that the council never even bothers to look at people during the public comment section. I was unable to look up from the page but I felt ignored. Afterward the one reaction I saw was from Bobby Schriver (son of Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver). He smiled at me and said "thank you." So I guess he listened.

Meanwhile I am told by a listener that one of the public speakers earlier complained that one or more council members earn more than the president of the United States. It is sad that they make that much money to preside over a room full of citizens who feel their legitimate demands are being ignored on many issues. I suppose that is one reason America is a big mess.

Scientology's staff members don't get to go home when they want. Home for many of them is a triple bunk and a foot locker. 10 p.m. is a very early quitting time for most of them. I don't know how you'd incorporate that in a future statement. Maybe something about that being the future in store for many of the children enrolled in the Delphi Academy.

As an aside, I'm surprised but happy scientology management hasn't yet figured out hot bunking.

AGP, isn't there enough propaganda out there to prove Delphi is a cult school?? Maybe someone can help you dig it up and you could use that as supporting evidence. I don't mean the public promo, but perhaps promo within the orgs and missions? I know that Flag has a specific person that devotes him/her self to handling all of Applied Scholastics. Perhaps a question from a "new" scientologist inquiring where to send their children to a "scientology" school would present answers, if recorded properly, of course.

My lawyer says all that matters is "did I loiter" not "why did I loiter."

Is it really a crime to stop and talk to people? Is freedom of speech only valid if you keep moving and not stop to do it? What exactly is the definition of loitering that would apply?? Were you just hanging out and drinking booze? Do you see where I'm going? AGP, really try to defend yourself...please.

I'm sure city officials in Santa Monica are fully aware that Delphi is a Scientology school and they don't care. Southern California has long been very progressive in the general attitudes of new religious movements.. and has been a hotbed for cults as has been its neighbor, Malibu.

It would be interesting to find out where individual City Council members stand on Scientology..

I could only find two references to loitering with regard to the California penal code.

If loitering is what you are charged with AGP I think you may find those references interesting. Your lawyer probably knows more about the subject.
