I lurked for years (and will continue to do so) on scientology sites before deciding to join the conversation. However, the vitriol, casually tossed off profanity, and embarassing infighting on WWP (which I still like) always made me a bit uncomfortable. Not that I don't mind a little profanity and in-fighting; it can be very entertaining. Nevertheless, it shames me as a member of the human species, because I think it is a byproduct of completely anonymous interaction. I'm glad you guys are here, and hope you continue to share your insights and well-informed opinions. I think it is ironic, because I'm guessing that the straw that broke the camel's back had nothing to do with the Church (the Germans).
Was it the German situation that caused you guys to quit?

Just one clarification, since it has come up several times. I posted initially in the thread about Smurf that I didn't want to comment much at the moment. The reason for that is simple, and duller than the speculation about it. I had just posted in response to the question about Smurf's ban that bans are between an individual and the staff. Minutia, but as I said it keeps coming up.
You are forgiven. Your penance is to cook me dinner. I like steak & ribs. And fries. And cherry cobbler. :eatpointer:

sammich pls.

I hear they are to be found in the kitchen.
But whoever will make them!

Didn't enturbulation.org at first want every single person to just be "Anonymous?" I recall some speeches that it was egotistical to have your own nickname. Soon enough they figured out that would make it impossible to have a community or even coherent multi-party conversations.

No, you sign up with a nick. Image boards are anonymous.

Don Carlo is correct, sort of. In the olden days, one could only post anonymously in the one of the sub-forums (I think it was Projects) on EO. Later, anonymous posting became available everywhere on the site.

It's interesting that on an Internet board where the mantra "dox or STFU" is the norm, and where I was continually being asked for dox, in pm's & open forum, that Sue would ban me for doing what was asked of me. Not once did Sue or any mod pm a warning, or a complaint that I was doxing inappropriately, though there were some anonymous posts challenging me on this. I never took anonymous challenges serious given the level of trolls that were posted in that manner.

It's sad.

Dox?

Sue and Smurf have been going at it for years; infractions, etc., but yes - at the time of the ban, Smurf didn't get a warning, sue just banned him.

Smurf was banned in late 2008 for doxing an anon. There's a thread on ars all about it. This is not new behavior of his. Sue is not the one who banned him in 2008, by the way.

Can't speak for "the guys" but I don't think it was the direct cause.
The "german situation" however, put everyone on Staff on edge much more than they had been. And tension between mod staff and admins increased considerably.

Tangerine resigned in the midst of it (just before Christmas), so he might have been an early casualty. He returned shortly (if briefly) afterward.

Hey Mark, sorry that you are gone from over there. I am concerned about what is happening with Sue and WWP. Do you think that Sue has been gotten to?

No. sue is being sue.

It's in the dome.
Has the dome bolstered or damaged the credibility of WWP?

No. Stop being silly.

No. As you see in this thread, sue de-modded me and then IP banned me for asking a question. Other mods quit as a result.

You were spamming Off-Topic with your baww so you were IP banned. It wasn't just asking a question.

Let me take a leaf outta the WWP/Enturb book and say...DOX or STFU

sue doesn't go on dox. He just wants to be an influence and manipulate people. It's called Social Engineering. I can see the sue show is not over.
