QUOTE: One's body is a mass of individual thetans stuck to oneself or to the body. DIRECT QUOTE FROM OT3 at
http://www.b-org.demon.nl/scn/nl/englis ... elief.html

In NOTS 22, Hubbard said BT's mock up mass: QUOTE:

"Anaten" is a Scientology term meaning...a kind of drowsiness or stupor... (caused by):

>> A BT sitting around or on a nerve channel, who is awakened and
>> suddenly mocks up mass or a ridge, will shut down the nerve and knock
>> the [body] anaten.... In the head especially, when a cluster suddenly
>> mocks up mass, it shuts off nerve channels.

Here we have a very interesting claim: BTs, which are purely spiritual
entities, are causing neurophysiological effects. The means by which these
effects are realized is not explained. Does the "mass" created by the BT
cause some sort of tonic depolarization of the nerve membrane...?

In a later section, Hubbard describes how the departure of body thetans can
result in a "somatic" -- an illusory physical ailment:

>> Sometimes they blow and a somatic turns on - two beings crunched
>> together and at the point of "crunch", they get a somatic.
...
This makes somatics seem like gallstones: pain caused by bits of mass
intruduing in the wrong place...END QUOTE from

http://www.xs4all.nl/~kspaink/cos/NotsS ... retzky.txt

About the big rush to "clear the planet:" Hubbard kept saying Scientology is a 20th
Century religion. My theory is he couldn't conceive of the planet lasting past 1999.
Kinda like some short-sighted tombstone-buyers in the 1990's. A typical
headstone would read May Smith 1922-19__. Then May Smith lived past December 31, 1999!

The short-sightedness persists in CoS. Eventually Travolta and Cruise will fade away,
CoS will lose its copyrights, billions of people will STILL not be Scientologists,
orgs will close, and the world will keep turning.

Don Carlo: I'm still trying to figure out how purely spiritual beings can be compressed together to form physical mass! :?

Your take on the "rush" is interesting, and makes sense.....I think that he really DID believe in most of what he wrote.

Another use of the word "implant" which inspired LRH?

My summary: Hubbard was floundering in 1966 and 1967, trying to create
a compelling mythology. He couldn't create a true "clear", and OT1
and OT2 were puzzling, unsatisfying and ineffective at creating
real OT's. LRH needed a big new level badly to keep the mystery
sandwich mysterious, and therefore to keep the believers' money flowing.
The first OT's are lame.
QUOTE: OT1... consists of a single process:
"Go out and spot a person!" END QUOTE from
http://www.crackpots.org/narcinsc.htm?FACTNet

OT2 seems to be a confused and meaningless mess.
QUOTE:...The official O.T.2 RunDown consists of ten ''wholetrack tables'...
'each set applies to a different ''entity''; presumably a reference
to Body Thetans, although that concept is not explictly introduced
until OT3.
...The names of the (entities) are:
(A) ELECTRICAL
(B) TOCKY
(C) BIG-BEING
(D) HOUSE
(E) PSYCHO...
END QUOTE from
http://www.xemu.demon.co.uk/clam/essay/essay7.html

More opinion: Hubbard wrote and sold OT1 and OT2 levels, so he couldn't
take them back. Hubbard had to think up an OT3 that would be an extension
of these first two levels, but add some pizzazz.

With his adoring followers clamoring for a new relevation, and desperately
wanting to cure himself of his ails, LRH may have heard from
Timothy Leary (actively preaching LSD throughout in the 1960's) and
Summer of Love (1967) that drug use would create new insights and find truth.
See
http://www.sftoday.com/enn2/summer6.htm
So the drinking
and taking pills could be PART of the process.

Events and ideas washed over him:
Evil alien mind-controlling lords, and prison planets
(from Dr. Who in the 1960's, and decades of schlock sci-fi)
Volcanoes from Las Palmas where he stayed in 1967
Population crisis from Paul Ehrlich and other news in 1967
Implant stories from 1965,1966, and 1967
The DC-8's he flew in 1967
The Xemnu story reprinted in 1967

It's as if Hubbard had been in an intergalactic 3D cinema, absorbing ideas.
Oh, right, that's part of OT3, too, after the volcanoes exploded:

QUOTE: everyone died and their souls known as “thetans” were
all swirling around the nuclear winds. Xenu knew that these
thetans would come back again unless he did something to prevent this.
So he captured all the souls in electronic beams and dumped them
all into a sort of intergalactic 3D cinema. For 37 days these thetans
were pelted with confusing images that told them they were The Devil,
Jesus, God and so on in a massive “implanting” by Xenu. END QUOTE from
http://www.theness.com/articles/askepti ... s0203.html

A decade later, LRH wrote a one hundred and forty page screenplay,
Revolt In The Stars, QUOTE: telling the EXACT SAME STORY... of a dictator called Xenu,
his use of "renegades", his oppression of the minorities, his
taking them down to Earth and strapping them to volcanoes and
H-bombing them, his defeat and imprisonment. The script was universally rejected ...
END QUOTE from
http://www.suburbia.net/~fun/scn/press/9509xenu.html

LRH's "pinks and greys" were probably ampetamines, which can
cause hallucinations - QUOTE:
The problems caused by amphetamines compare nearly identically to
those caused by cocaine. (Problems caused by cocaine):
Aside from delusions (such as the idea that “people are out
to get me”), users can also hallucinate. These can be visual
(seeing things that aren’t there), auditory (hearing things),
or tactile (feeling things). One type of tactile hallucination induced
by cocaine is sometimes called “coke bugs,” the feeling that bugs are
crawling on your skin.END QUOTE from

http://self-renewal.com/drugs_of_abuse. ... Stimulants

QUOTE:
According to Sinar Parman, Hubbard was a psychopathic insane
person screaming about BT's and clusters at the top of his lungs.END QUOTE from
http://www.xs4all.nl/~kspaink/cos/mpoul ... ndre4.html

and Hubbard became obsessed with BT's only after he created OT3.

In the end, LRH succeeded in "implanting" his own delusion onto his followers,
forcing THEM to become obsessed with (non-existent) body thetans.
An unbalanced state of mind was, for the first time, spread one person
at a time, through each person paying big bucks to read and re-enact
schlock science fiction. This goes with my theory that Scientology
is not religion, but a form of believing participation in
fantasy literature.

If I can add to that, Scientology began declaring people "Clear" in the mid-1960s and assigning numbers. If you talk to someone who was a Scientology "Clear" between 1965 and 1980, they will tell you they were Clear #87, #791, #5247, etc. The numbering practice seems to have been discontunued around 1980, after the "natural clear" fiasco during which 30,000 Scientologists with varying degrees of mental stability were declared Clear simpley because the needle floated when they were asked if they were clear.

Anyway, the Offical Clear #1 was a South African named John McMaster, who for a time was a Scientology media spokesperson billed as the "World's First Clear."

What I wanted to add to this thread was that by 1966-67, people were flocking to Saint Hill to get their very own Clear Number and fashionable silver Clear symbol bracelet engraved with their very own offical Clear number. But it must have been quickly appeant that many of these these new clears did NOT fit the public description of how clears were supposed to behave.

But how could that be? Business was too good to say "No, these people aren't really clear - they still have a reactive mind." Since the LRH would lose credibility saying that the clears still had reactive minds, the NEW explanation for "why clears don't act like clears" because OTHER beings' reactive minds, or body thetans. And OT III was born.

By the 1980s, the revised OT levels and NOTS were all based on processing body thetans. Since it is always possible to postulate (both the standard english AND the LRH definitions of "postulate" seem to apply here) more BTs, you can always blame a persons problems on BTs, no matter how high up the bridge one goes.

Several writers have theorized that Hubbard wrote the OT3 story straight
from a drug-induced hallucination. That story gives Hubbard too much
credit for being original. It's like the flip side of Hubbard's own breathless
description of the story as a heroic quest. The reality is that
media stories and personal experiences, like seeing volcanoes and flying in DC-8's,
impressed him. A Freudian would
say his subconscious was swayed by the media hype. In Scientology
terms, his reactive mind was swayed by these events. So rather than
a terrible lunatic or a great hero, he's just a barely-conscious
follower of current fads, fallacies, and fears pumped out by the world media.

Athiest. I hope you bring your discovery to Andreas attention. This really, really deserves it own little blog. It's funny but an important part of the OT3 saga. You may want to consider publishing your find in article or essay form to memorialize it. Write it. Copyright it.
;-)

A lot of good alternative rags would publish this. Possibly Slashdot. Plenty others.

Slashdot likes short snappy stories that relate to free speech, open source software, cool technology, etc. This story needs more action (like a lawsuit) before it would attract the attention of most Internet message boards.

Marvel Comics message boards would be interested in the Xemnu/Xenu links. There are several, including the "guardiansoforder" link mentioned above.

Too bad CoS would sue if someone did a comic book of Hubbard's idea-stealing life.

I think Hubbard forgot he ever read this Xemnu business. A Xemnu graphic would make a fine T shirt or mousepad. We should contact Marvel regarding copyright stipulations. I want to see Xemnu in bold color. He should be exalted in all his glory!

Nothing from the friend at Windsor U so far and apparently friend's colleagues think the friend who asked friend to investigate this is slightly screwy in the head. Interestingly, though they had a guy there from 1969-1975 as Professor of Religious Studies, a Lonnie D. Kliever. Ph.D.

FAIR USE QUOTE

I have been asked by the Church of Scientology to give my expert opinion on two broad issues: (1) The incidence of apostasy in new religious movements and (2) The reliability of apostate accounts of their former religious beliefs and practices. These two questions are of crucial importance for a proper understanding of new religious movements because such apostates are often singled out as reliable informants about their former beliefs and practices in media exposés and even scholarly studies of non-traditional religious movements. END QUOTE

The entire essay is published on Scientology's "Religious Freedom Watch website:

Bad, Bad Apostates!

If you click on this website's Home page, then click on "Anti-Religious Extremists" you'll find the names of people like Ida Camburn and David Touretzky.

The name of the website is a misnomer as it does not announce its intention to focus only on anti-Scientology "apostates."

Umike if this was going to really go anywhere near the point of a lawsuit there would have to be an almost thesis level of research involved. Each point of the OT III story would have to be identified and listed, then literary sources from that time back would have to be reviewed for relevance. This is alot of work but not impossible as Don Carlo and Mike De Wolf have provided quite a number of referances already. Also the range of literary works can be broken down by ownership. Possibly just concentrating on just what Marvel owns to start with.
Finding an individual that collects comics from that time frame and is fimiliar with them would be a good resource to find.

Umike I have put some thought into the idea of creating a comic book based around Xemnu. By first getting permission from Marvel to use the Xemnu character and then write a story blatantly coping OT III. The story only needs to be different by 10% or some number like that to have legitimacy. If the CoS does sue for copyright infringement then they would be required to disclose the entire OT III for the court.
It would be interesting to see if someone could write a graphic novel on the life of LRH and his development of Scientology.

Well think it out carefully. Putting aside your legal exposure for a moment. You would essentially be atop a flag pole with your rear end exposed. Be ready for backlash from them.
Long ago I was tailed by one of their investigators for a couple months for activities I will post about soon. It's quite unnerving. You have to accept that possibility. The good news is you will have alot of support.
