Someone posted the first video linked to below and while I watched it a lot of the stuff Hubbard tried to pass off came to mind. See if it does for you. I also found the video accessed by the second link interesting because Feynman uses the game of chess as a means of illustrating what is involved with the scientific method.

The first link is to a Wikipedia article on Richard Feynman so you can find out who he was and what he accomplished.

If nothing else, I think you will find the material in the videos completely refreshing, especially if you have formerly been involved in $cientology.

I've been an admirer of Feynman since I can't remember. Genius. Great story teller. Great human being. All around awesome. :)

Feynman described "Cargo Cults" where Pacific Islanders would build runways and other airport structures believing this would bring airplanes and cargo. This is like Miscavige building the Ideal Orgs believing they will lure in new members. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult_science

I like this:

"If it disagrees with experiment it's wrong. In that simple statement is the key to science. It doesn't make any difference how beautiful your guess is. It doesn't make any difference how smart you are, who made the guess or what his name is, if it disagrees with experiment, it's wrong. That's all there is to it." Richard Feynman.

I watched two of the Feynman lectures. They are quite entertaining, but they are intended for a general audience, so this is not a high level of discussion of scientific methodologies.

In these lectures Feynman did not say anything that I would disagree with; but, in general, his philosophical views are very different from the ones that I follow. Feynman was a phenomenologist, while I am a positivist, which makes me disagree with him on variety of topics.

Niels Bohr, who made the most profound impact on philosophy of physics, was a positivist, whose explanations of the principles of quantum mechanics are perfect. Feynman explains the laws of quantum mechanics differently, and I disagree with him.

Hubbard with his idiotic views of science was a bonehead who had absolutely no idea of what the scientific research is. Vast majority of his followers lack basic training in science, so they do not see how wrong the founder was.
