Come on, 12 missions in Kazachstan? :? One of the most remote and sparsely populated countries in the world? They have maybe 15 million inhabitants, many of them nomads. Most of the ethnic Kazach are Muslim. The fourty-something percent of the population that is Russian mostly belongs to the Russian Orthodox (Christian) Church .
To compare: Neighbouring country Kyrgyzstan has only one mission, even India (1 billion people) has only two. Most European countries only have a few.

Does this strong representation of COS in an allmost empty and very remote country in Central Asia have anything to do with the fact that Ms. Irina Mappin, co-owner of the Camelot Hotel in Cornwall, England is Kazachstani by birth and married to a prominent English scientologist? Watch the video's on

http://www.xenutv.com/blog/?p=5084

The promo-video is truly hilarious. The celebration of the Kazach presidents birthday in the hotel. The man isn't even there  Hilarious.

Just as hilarious as 12 COS missions in a country like Kazachstan. Maybe they count the private home of each scientology-member as a mission? That way they'd probably get to 12.

Enjoy the Camelot-videos! Love, Sekh

I bet you are right, Sekh! People have looked in to addresses of supposed orgs and missions many times only to find out it was a mail drop box or private home, etc.

There are a couple of long running threads with lots of information about scientologist John Mappin and his wife Irina on WWP:

Thanks for the links, Ladybird!

I can't keep wondering why members of an organisation that is so concerned with human rights as the COS seems to be, see for instance http://www.scientology.org/activity/hum ... ights.html

endorses a president with an atrocious human rights record, according to Amnesty International. See:

http://www.amnesty.org/en/region/kazakstan

Saying this, I also wonder if this mr. Nazarbayev even knows his name is being used in a commercial for an English tourist trap and an international religious cult. :?: Somehow I have the feeling the man doesn't have the slightest clue.
He must be way to busy surpressing dissidents at home to celebrate his birthday on the other side of the world with a nobody like ms. Mappin.

And one can mention a lot of negative things about dictators, but usually they, or at least the advisers they use, have quite a good taste for luxury accommodation and fine arts. Neither of which are to be found at the Camelot Hotel.

Oh well, let's just say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... :cyclopsani:

Love, Sekh.

Borat, yeah. But only to the orgs, The poor people of Kazachstan can't help it. They've got plenty of misery in their lives without CoS or Borat messing up their lives even further.

But Borat messing up the presidents birthday-party in the Camelot hotel could be funny....

And they'll even have a real celebrity then. The good old president doesn't seem to make his grand entry, unless he sent his Thetan and left his body at home.... But in that case, why the helicopter.... :? Strange.

Maybe it IS time for some investigative journalism a la Borat.

(only joking), love, Sekh.

A 31-minute television report in Russian about Scientology in Kazakhstan was recently posted on the gs1867 YouTube channel. The program's title is "Scientology: Religion? Business? Espionage?" and the YouTube video's title is "Scientology: The Clearing of Kazakhstan".

It begins with scenes of a police raid on the Scientology Mission in Almaty (date not specified). The program focuses first on the painful story of Gulshakhar Zhakypova, a mother disconnected from by her daughter, Meruert. Yuri Chigrin, who was on staff at the Almaty mission, shows his SP declare on goldenrod (printed in English, see 12:29) and the report explains Scientology's fair game policy. Other subjects are Scientology and money; front groups such as Narconon and Performia (business training); Scientology's intelligence gathering and the files it maintains; Scientology's opposition to psychiatry; Scientology's vitamin and sauna treatments; auditing; Narconon's activities in Kazakhstan.

Саентология. Клирование Казахстана
("Scientology: The Clearing of Kazakhstan", in Russian, posted Feb. 17, 2011)

The gs1867 YouTube channel also has other interesting videos about Scientology, for example:

А. Дворкин о Хаббарде и саентологии ч.1
("Alexander Dvorkin on Hubbard and Scientology, Part 1", in Russian, posted March 4, 2011)
А. Дворкин о Хаббарде и саентологии ч.2
("Alexander Dvorkin on Hubbard and Scientology, Part 2", in Russian, posted March 4, 2011)

Том Круз саентология (русская версия)
("Tom Cruise Scientologist (Russian Version)", posted Feb. 17, 2011; dubbed with a Russian voice-over and, in the background, Edward Hill singing the LOLOLOL song)

Thanks mnql1. Interesting, especially the raid video where one doesn't need to understand too much Russian to appreciate what's going on.

This would make fine post in the Media Reports section if you want to crosspost it there (or post it one place and link to it from the other). I'll leave it up to you.

Thank you, Sponge. Cross-posted to a new thread in the media section.
Television report (in Russian) on Scientology in Kazakhstan
I might subtitle this some day, if time permits and no one else does it first.

Thanks, mnql1. This is interesting. Unfortunately I don't understand Russian, so if you ever have some time to spare... I would be very grateful for subtitles.
