The guy I contacted about Narconon has had a chance to review the material provided. Here are a few of his comments;

"just looked in the
pamphlet that said all drugs are poison, and if you use a little, it's a stimulant, if you use a lot, it's a sedative, and if you use even more, it'll kill you. Then they showed how drinking 3 cups of coffee will wake you up, ten cups will put you to sleep (?!!), and an unspecified amount will kill you.

That's beyond stupid. We in the prevention biz are forever being accused of bad science...crap like this can't be part of any curriculum we use, endorse, or even have laying around the office.

Sure, this junk coulda gone right into the dumpster, but it wasn't exactly unsolicited. A guy contacted a co-worker of mine, and asked if he could donate some tapes that would help us prevent substance abuse. As William Shakespeare put it, "Seemed like a good idea at the time." Oh well."

My experience was like the woman's Tara this past summer in Narconon, Southern Calif. but I survived despite that. I would like to help preventing this from happening to others. These messages seem to peter out. Please respond! Thanks.

Babs, it is very important that you decided to speak about it. Please be patient with posting. Just watch for a while, please. And as I said in the guestbook already: try to find official stations to talk to, may it be a doctor/hospital, the consumers protection organisation, or even as a first contact if everything fails: the citizens hotline from the government, they have the right addresses for you. Also police should be able to provide you with an address. You could ask any of the representatives of any of the world religions, (buddhism, jewish, islamic, hinduism, shintoism, catholics, protestants, or any of the nature religions) they have almost all what is called "representatives in worldview questions" and those know people/groups who can help you. At their universities you could find a prof. or any other representative who could help you.

It is very important, that you share your knowledge at first in an aerea of complete protection. If you have protection, please come back in one of the forums/newsgroups and talk about it. It could be even up to you to create a safe place for people with similar experiences. It would be needed!

The newsgroup alt.religion.scientology could be a place, yet is sometimes very rude and raw. But you could try. Many "critics" are in fact scientologists posing as critics to "handle" criticism. So do not trust anybody on one of the newsgroups or forums.

Your readiness to talk about it is so precious! If you have questions please do not hesitate to ask them in the guestbook. I'll check this out in the next days.

Babs, since you already logged in I would like to ask you to not reveal any personal information to anybody here.

Woogy, thank you for posting and saying what you did. I guess I was just overcome in seeing other stories from Narconon and knowing I was not alone. I will try to find another more cautious way to tell my story.

Is this a drug rehab program run by $ci? This would be the same program offered to my g/f for her daughter at a cost of $22,000 or more?

In a word yes! NarCONon is a Cult of $cientology front group. They use the drekish babblings of that demented psychotic.

I had missed this. "Babs" pmed me a few times, and I was trying to help her, but I see by the above she took Woogy's advice and disappeared, and never answered my last pm.

Calling people names does not help for starters (it tends to degrade... and I would know as I had to put up with name calling in elementary school).

Babs, hit the PM button under my post and tell me your story if you wish. Rest assured, I am not COINTELPRO nor am I a Scientologist myself. I am neither. I am an independent journalist, and when one sees only a few news media reports from the mainstream on Scientology (if at all) then that makes one wonder.

I have an advertisement from Narconon myself, and I noticed something wrong indeed. They never cited the actual sources of the "indepenent" studies of the program itself.

The important thing is to not be afraid, but be smart about it as well. Get yourself some allies in the process and whatever you do, do not contact the Cult Awareness Network (CAN) as it was bought out by a member of Scientology (conflict of interest... and I would say that if anyone from a different religion bought out the network as well).
