Hi,

I've upgraded the OC board to the latest release and bough a license for the software. Not finished editing the left pane menu back to the old fashion. Will do some testing first.

New users can now register on-line under "Edit Profile".

We also got access to spell checking now.

I've been testing the new archive function but have experience minor problems. If I can't manage to do an one-off archive of everything older than 01.01.2001 then I will have to initiate automatic archive of everything older than X number of days. I suggest 30 days, any other suggestions?

We can now also create private groups, if any of you see the need for that. These groups will be unavailable even to read for others than the one given access. I will probably delegate the administrator responsibility for such private groups.

Let me know if you have any questions or experience problems with the new version.

Andreas:

It's probalby just me, but I prefer the easier to read larger type that covers the whole area. I think it is also better for copying too.

Just my 2 cents

Tigger

Tigger, I'll match your 2 cents and raise you 2 more... unfortunately I like this new format. :)

Andreas, if you need or would like help with the fees for licensing or implementing the upgrades, let me know. No pressure. Just an offer to contribute.

Thanks... speedwell

Hi Speedwell,

Thank you for your offer.

I made the decision long time ago that I would not accept monetary donations to Operation Clambake. As long as I'm operating on this level I earn enough to manage it. My main concern is to rule out every possible source for suspicion that I do this for the money. The best way to do that is to just say no.

As for upgrading Discus is very easy, mainly FTP and setting rights. The fine tuning is also simple, the toughest part will probably be for you users to agree on how you like it. :-) As for other help on OC there is a lot, so if people have ideas for stuff to be done then send me a note.

What I really like about the new format are the smiley faces! How do you do that? I can't find a "symbols" section on the toolbar.

Curious

P.S. Tigger, personally I prefer the old style also, but I think this is something we can adapt to. Within a month, hopefully we'll become accustomed to it! What's that about changing with the times?

A JUST MY 2 CENTS!
I Shares my point of view with Tigger and Curious regarding the "old board" Since I like bigger size on words and white background with relatively black words as it appeared to me earlier!

By the way here, I am from Sweden and I am not familiar with the metaphorically statement "just my 2 cents". Word by word, it means to me that Tigger gives to Andreas Heldal-Lund only 2 cents for his new board and Speedwell 4 cents, since there is no corresponding statement in Swedish regarding I give you my 2 ore! But so far as I can see here, it appears to me as it mean I give you my point of view about it, or this is my point of view!

But I can't see the meaning with 2 or 4 cents in context?

I am very interested to be more familiar with English can someone define this peculiar metaphor to me?

Best regards

Peter and others.
You may change the size of words in MS-Explorer by holding down the CTRL-keys and rolling the mouse wheel (if you have a mouse with the small wheel that is).

This will temporarily change the size of the font in the window you are viewing

I know the word size changes possibilities, but I don't like the color here and its forms, I like the old one!

Best regards

To Peter, who wrote:

You can make all sorts of changes to the colors and forms by following the instructions in the formatting section in the side panel. In my opinion this background is better than the blue one that used to be on the previous discussion board on fza because that one wasn't always the best when one wanted to print in the color blue. I don't know why more people don't make use of it because it looks better, don't you think?

Here are more changes that can be made

Peter... "2 cents' worth" is an old American expression. It comes from the notion that two cents is all someone's unsolicited opinion is worth. lol...

"I'll see your (amount of money) and raise you (another amount of money)" comes from the way people bet in the card game of poker.

Who asked about smileys? Do this: type a : and then a ) together to make a "sideways smiley" and the program will automatically substitute a smiley face icon. :)

Hope that helps!

peace... speedwell

Thank you. :) Unfortunately, I'll probably spend the rest of the morning making these stupid things!

Curious :)

shock/surprise :-0

There's a different board I frequent that has so many of these emoticons it's amazing. Some are even animnated.

BTW, thanks for the font size tip, Anonymous! I knew that damn mouse wheel would finally come in handy one of these days.
