I want to start a discussion of this particular document used in scientology.

This is a core document. It outlines the services that scientology offers for sale. It is the "map of the bridge." This is right up there with dianetics: the modern science of mental health, keeping scientology working, and the "org board."

The longer one remains in scientology the more one absorbs this document. Registrars use it in most, if not all their sales (or they should). It is posted almost as prominently in "orgs" as are the pictures of L. Ron, (though not in as many places.)

Copies of it are distributed freely and frequently to scientologists.

So that's enough "TL;DR" from me on this.

Here's a link to a copy of the chart that works as of this writing. It is very large. You'll have to scroll around to see it all.

http://scientology.org.il/religion/bridge/pg005.html

I'll start commenting on it later, but if anyone else has anything to say about this, please, post away.

I'd love to get some of the grade charts from the 1970s, which gave way more information than most of the later examples. Does anybody out there know where I could find a scan of one?

For fun, let's start on "the Grade Chart" with the "dissemination drill." I never studied the materials for the "dissemination drill" though as I understand it there are bulletins on this and how to do it. I guess since I was in division six it was just the logical thing to never train me on this valuable piece of Hubbard's fantastic "technology." At any rate I got the information for the drill through "verbal data." The core material for this particular performance is on the grade chart.

Open the grade chart in another tab so you can follow along.
http://scientology.org.il/religion/bridge/pg005.html

Oh, wait. I have to bring the lurking scientologists up to speed on this. Two of the most widely used web browsers are Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3. These two browsers allow the user to open many web pages simultaneously and access them by using what are called "tabs."

Now on the chart scroll over to the middle just under the title.

You will find the words "Awareness Characteristics." Below that you will see the words "Total Freedom" with an arrow below it pointing up.

Now scroll down to the bottom of the chart where you will find two long arrows pointing up. At the very bottom it says "-34 Unexistence" and my spell checker is right now protesting on that word.

Scroll up a bit and you will find "-7 ruin." That's where the dissemination drill starts. Let me just quote the chart in order here so you can follow along.

Quote:
-1 Help
-2 Hope
-3 Demand for Improvement
-4 Need of Change
-5 Fear of Worsening
-6 Effect
-7 Ruin

You now have a map of almost every con game there is.

So here in essence is how the dissemination drill works. It starts with finding a person's "ruin." The people in scientology doing this drill don't care if what they find is really your "ruin" or not. They just need a hook on which they can hang the rest of the drill and get you into scientology.

I will demonstrate this with a fictitious exchange between a scientologist, I'll call Fred and a "piece of raw meat" - I'm sorry, a young woman I'll call Suzie.

Fred has got into communication with Suzie with the "Free Stress Test," scientology's "Free Personality Test" or by some other means. Fred has been love bombing Suzie "to get her to feel more assured." (ref: Desolation Row by Bob Dylan) and so the dissemination drill starts.

Fred: Do you mind if I ask you a personal question?

Suzie: No. It's alright.

Fred: What's ruining your life? (-7 Ruin)

Suzie: What do you mean?

Fred: What is it that is keeping you from having a really good life.

Suzie: Well my mother has all these rules.

Fred: Is that what's ruining your life?

Suzie: Yeah, I guess.

Fred: OK, good. How does that effect you? (-6 Effect)

Suzie: It keeps me from going out with my boyfriend and having a good time. She makes me stay home every night and do homework.

Fred: OK, good. Can you see how that could get worse? (-5 Fear of Worsening)

Suzie: If I do go out with my boyfriend she would ground me for a long time. Then I'd never have any fun.

Fred: OK, good. Do you see that you need to change that? (-4 Need of change)

Suzie: Yeah.

Fred: OK, good. You really want to improve that situation with your mother, don't you? (-3 Demand for improvement.)

Suzie: Yeah.

Fred: OK, good. Well there is hope for you. (-2 Hope) Scientology can help with that. (-1 Help)

Suzie: How?

Fred: I am so glad you asked.

At this point Fred will sell Suzie a dianetics book or a basic service in scientology and get her name, address, phone number, email address and very probably her credit card information.

While moderately effective the "dissemination drill" does not work on a one for one basis, which contributes a great deal to the ire of divisional secretaries and executive directors. It also contributes to people in the public divisions doing "lower conditions."

I remember distinctly, that, in 1974, the grade chart stated, regarding the OT levels, OTV was going exterior to the physical universe, OTVI was otherwise known as OTE or Operating Thetan Exterior, the ability to operate exterior to the body. OTVII was the rehabilitation of projection of intention. OTVIII which was TO BE RELEASED PENDING MORE PEOPLE COMPLETING OTVII, was "at cause over Matter, Energy, Space, and Time, both objective and subjective". In January of 1975, a new grade chart was released, omitting OTVIII. It also had OT3X for Expanded. OTIII was done, then OTVII was done, and then OTIII was re-done, and then on to 4, 5, and 6. The idea was to rehab projection of intention and then having at those pesky beetees again. This was prior to NOTS. It was the beginning of phasing in beetee mania and ushering out the old bridge, which, no shit, actually produced some MINOR results. I say this because of a handful of OTVI types that I knew, they would, from time to time, manifest some OT stuff but not regularly.

Anyways, I asked about what happened to OTVIII on the grade chart back then, and told it was removed for being "out gradient"

That is different than the grade chart in 1975.

That's pretty much how I remember them, too, but would love to have copies to point to. There was a lot about the lower levels that was interesting, also - like the Dianetic Case Completion EP of "A well and happy human being," which was at least an implicit claim that auditing cured physical ailments.

And that was the cult that I joined. The one which could audit away cancer, let people throw away their glasses, raise IQs dramatically, and, when OT VIII came out, have godlike powers. All thanks to an engineer who was also a nuclear physicist, who cured himself of blindness acquired as a great war hero. I want copies of those charts. I want documentation of that FRAUD.

I should have mentioned that the "Grade Chart" has been changed over time. The abilities gained, the courses offered and the order in which services are to be taken have all been changed.

The ability gained at OT VIII when I started in scientology was "Knowing and willing cause over thought, life, matter, energy, space and time subjective and objective."

The only problem was that at the time it was yet to be released. When it did get released it was changed to "truth revealed." I guess the truth that was revealed is, "You are not getting knowing and willing cause over thought, life, matter, energy, space and time subjective and objective."

EVERYTHING in Scientology is a fraud! The ever-changing grade chart is but one obvious example. I got involved in 1984, so the 70's grade chart version was already long gone. But I did see that version a while later in the org (somebody left an old copy either in the academy or qual) and began to wonder why the alterations were made. Seeing the older grade chart was one of the seeds that were planted that made me ask more and more questions (though I learned early on to keep nearly all of them to myself since questioning and critical thinking were tantamount to treason in Scientology).

In those pre-internet days, there was precious little information out there that was critical of Scientology, and what little there actually was out there was routinely squashed.

I'd like to see ALL of the grade charts scanned and posted here so we can all see the changes it has gone through. These documents, along with Miscavige's "Golden Age of Tech" are irrefutable evidence that the sacred tech has been altered again and again, DESPITE the PR we were fed that Hubbard's tech was perfect and infallible and underscores the endless lies and hypocrisy that is at the root of Scientology's very existence.

I'm looking at this chart to find the next discussion topic on it and the word "Release" jumps out at me from the glossary at the bottom. What immediately came to mind was Michael Palin as Pilate in The Life of Brian saying, "Release Roderick." If you haven't seen that movie you are in for some new lulz.

I think what I will do is go through some of how I would use this as a registrar in making a sales pitch to someone in the euphoria and suggestibility of just completing a basic course. (You know, scientology, we could have done a better job at getting money for Hubbard if you had just let us in on the gag - you know hypnosis, suggestibility, brainwashing and so on.)

Follow along with the chart at this web address:
http://scientology.org.il/religion/bridge/pg005.html

This chart is quite different from the one we had when I was on staff. Back then there was a lot less futzing around below the zero points - Class 0/Grade 0. New Era Dianetics was Dianetic Case Completion and came before the grades. There were many other differences.

Pretend you are a recently hypnotized new scientologist. You have done TRs or a "book one co-audit? and are in a euphoric state coming off the induced trance of your first real scientology service.

The following is one side dialog. You can fill in any answers to the questions I may ask. I am love bombing the hell out of you. I am super friendly, up tone enthusiastic at 4.0 on the tone scale and I am nodding my head a lot as I speak.

Nodding the head is a technique described in Big League Sales Closing Techniques. Nodding the head while making the sales pitch implied agreement. The registrar or sales person wants you to say "yes."

"Hey, how are you doing? Just completed your basic service - Wow! You look just great? I read your success story; Excellent! Say, you got a few minutes? I want to show you this."

I walk you over to the grade chart. Back then it was on a folded piece of paper that had been opened up and tacked up on the wall or on a board. Now it's laminated on a board with a watermark of the bridge behind all the print - very "upstat."

The next thing I do is tell about the way the chart works. The left side is the training side; the right side is the auditing side. I push the training side. I tell you at least fifty percent of your gains will come from training and that it is more cost effective because when you are trained you can co-audit with other auditors and go up the bridge that way without paying the hourly rates for your auditing.

There are three columns on the chart that I will concentrate on. Over on the left I will focus on "Teaches About" and "End Result." On the left chart these are the column on the far right and the one that is third to the left from the right side. On the right hand side I will concentrate on the columns headed with "Ability Gained" found mostly on the far right.

As I go through my pitch I will be watching your responses and your body language. I will be controlling our conversation and moving you to a state of mind where you really want what is on that chart. I will be looking for the point where you tell me that's what you want or I tell you that you want it and you agree.

After that there will be money for Hubbard, though I work for free. (Ref. Money for Nothing by Dire Straits)

Again I ask others who have opinions and comments on the Grade Chart to post them here. I want to not have a monopoly on this thread.

Weiber,

You gave me a song parody idea with that paraphrase from the Dire Straits, so here it is, back at you with the finished work.

Pete

Bucks For Miscavige, tune of Money For Nothing, apologies to the Dire Straits

Now look at them Scino’s, that’s the way they do it
Slavin’ away for Scientology
They keep workin’, that’s the way they do it,
Bucks for Miscavige but they work for free.
Now look at them Scino’s, that’s the way they do it
Slavin’ away for Scientology
Now they keep workin’, that’s the way they do it,
Lemme tell ya they sure are dumb
Maybe they will loose just part of a finger,
Some of them wind up missing a whole thumb.

Those RPF’rs build the E-meters,
And do all the building rehab work,
They hand carry those refrigerators,
On behalf of that asthmatic jerk.

See the little munchkin on the stage, he’s all made up,
The little munchkin with the quaffed blonde hair
That little munchkin rides a charter airplane,
He carry’s on like he’s a millionaire.

Those RPF’rs build the E-meters,
And do all the building rehab work,
They hand carry those refrigerators,
On behalf of that asthmatic jerk.

I shoulda learned to exploit staffers,
I shoulda learned to kick their butts
His goons have guns and security cameras,
That sick dwarf sure has fun.
And he’s up there, what’s that? Tantrum noises?
Screamin’ at staffers like a chimpanzee.
They keep workin’, that’s the way they do it,
Bucks for Miscavige but they work for free.

Those RPF’rs build the E-meters,
And do all the building rehab work,
They hand carry those refrigerators,
On behalf of that asthmatic jerk.

Now look at them Scino’s, that’s the way they do it
Slavin’ away for Scientology
They keep workin’, that’s the way they do it,
Bucks for Miscavige but they work for free.
Bucks for Miscavige but they work for free.

Nothing in the way of a Scientology parody. I am considering doing an entire album of parody tunes about WalMart, and 16 Tons has been appropriated for that idea. I already have a few parodies for WalMart done, will toss one up here, its off point, but wtf, I'm more or less the class clown here anyways.

Pete

Wallyworld, tune of Jesse’s Girl

WalMart is no friend,
Yeah, WalMart is no friend of yours or mine.
But WalMart has cornered a cheap imported line,
And that store has all the goodies that I wanna make all mine.

And they lure us with low prices,
And they exploit Chinese slave labor, I just know it!
Illegal aliens clean their stores late, late at night.

Oh how I hate to shop at WallyWorld!
I hate to shop at WallyWorld!
Why do I shop at a store like that?

You know their long checkout parade,
Is causin’ all of our local stores to fade.
You know I feel so dirty buyin’ slave labor goods,
I wanna buy stuff made domestic, but it ain’t in our neighborhoods.
And they lure us with low prices.
And they exploit Chinese slave labor, I just know it!
Illegal aliens clean their stores late, late at night.

You know I hate to shop at WallyWorld!
I hate to shop at WallyWorld!
Why do I shop at a store like that?

Like WallyWorld!
I hate to shop at WallyWorld!
Why do I shop at a store …
Why do I shop at a store like that?

And they’re surveilling their shoppers all the time,
Wonderin’ what we’re sneakin’ out free.
They look at me funny in the checkout line,
That ain’t the way shopping oughta be!

Tell me …
Why do I shop at a store like that?

You know I hate to shop at WallyWorld!
I hate to shop at WallyWorld!
I hate WallyWorld!
Why do I shop at a store like that?

Like WallyWorld!
I hate to shop at WallyWorld!
I hate, I hate WallyWorld!

Good stuff RedPill, but I am not anywhere near finished with the grade chart. There will be more. Expect me.

Fire away, dude. Very often all it takes is a phrase like you came up with earlier and the parody will almost write itself. The first time I heard someone call WalMart "WallyWorld" something about the way he said "WallyWorld" reminded me of "Jesse's Girl" and the parody just flowed out. I do political parodies as well, such as "Serfdom USA" to "Surfing USA", "The Gun Grabbers" tune of "The Backstabbers", "Gods In Black Nighties" (about judges) to the tune of "Knights In White Satin" and some just for fun, like "Grow Room" tune of "In The White Room" by Creme, and, of course, my revenge against having had to listen to too many Barry Manilo songs, "Copulating Banana" tune of Copa Cabana, which I used to do at Bachelor Parties.
