Protests at Gold: cops, noise, PIs, you name it

Benny's Friend should be posting an awesome report about this tomorrow, we're exhausted, but a couple of protests went down today at Gold.

Five of us arrived at around 2pm with signs, music, cameras, etc. I have to say, for 5 people we looked pretty awesome. The cops were already there when we drove by to check things out. We had lunch and then went back, and they immediately turned on these speakers they had set up with a noise that sounded like a long car honk. This didn't deter us, though. As soon as the noised stopped we'd yell, "Stop the Beatings" and other things.

Apparently earlier Smurf and some friends had also executed a protest. Benny's Friend should have more details, along with photos and video.

Then, as we were driving home, we noticed we were being followed, of course, and had a very exciting encounter with the PI, that was all caught on video. This should be posted soon.

I'm glad to hear that the protests were able to happen today. Can't wait to see these videos and hear more about this PI encounter!

Please post this raid report where more anons will see the news, too! Many are very interested in what happened today at Gold.

This is beginning to remind me of April, 1945, with the Soviets rapidly closing in on "the bunker". When all is said and done, I hope that the oinksters who were harassing the protestors get prosecuted as well.

Speaking of 1945, the noise from the speakers did sound just like air-raid sirens.

It was SO BIZZARE. People driving by were looking around, like WTF is that? Then they saw us with our signs, honked and gave us the old thumbs up.

I wish I wasn't so blasted tired...but it's been a long day and I ain't no spring chicken.

Nevertheless, here are a couple of today's highlights. First, the afternoon raid crew:

A small group, but solidly determined.

Second, seven seconds of the earsplitting wall of noise we dealt with all afternoon -- roughly 130 decibels of a freaky Frankensteinian cord coming from approximately seven giant speaker towers strategically placed around the protest area and designed to completely incapacitate the average SP.......(which explains our resilience!)

(This is not an actual report of what happened, but a 90% accurate guess based on 15 years of experience on the Int Base.)

Ever since the last time that the raid went there and talked to the Gold Cine crew guys with cameras, a number of the Cine people have been in doubt, especially in terms of what “SPs” are telling them versus what DM is telling them based on their last encounter. Some of them may have had thoughts of leaving or someone may have even attempted to blow as a result.

DM heard about this, read the sec check KRs of the people and decided he cannot have any more in-person contact between the Int Base people and the protesters so as to prevent any outside information reaching inside and causing last dregs of his support to vanish. So he ordered the Port Captain Gold to handle it. He probably came up with the handling himself and ordered speakers to be lined up along the highway. It is more likely than not that this was a DM order for many reasons, main one being that it is countering his own order of reducing the noise from the highway, and nobody else dares to counter his orders. Besides hiring that kind of equipment is an expense that would have to be authorized by him.

No, the people on the base would not be taken anywhere else during the raid, they would just be ordered to stay inside, out of sight from the highway and “keep working.” How anyone can keep working with that kind of noise going on is another story entirely; in real life, you will have 400 people there doing nothing else but talking about the picket for its duration and long afterward. So the strategy to “reduce the distraction” is a complete and utter failure, more like maximizing it by making sure NOBODY can work while the picket is taking place by making maximum noise out of it. Good going, Dave.

There will be official internal “explanation” as to the use of the speakers which is along the line of “protecting the base staff from exposure to OT data” (always the same story).

So we know a couple of new things: The initial raid had more than a little impact, with many of the Cine crew that you saw last time now being in doubt. It was effective enough to make DM order not to have base staff interact with you any more. For if this wasn’t the case, they would be there again, doing the same exact thing. Forced change of tactic = you won.

And we now know that DM is directly involved in the “handling” (no one else there comes up with handlings as crazy as this, especially not ones that counter his own orders).

I believe you have just managed to pull off one of the biggest shutdowns in the history of the operation of the Int Base apart from natural disasters (flood, fire, earthquake) and unnatural disasters (DM).

Can you imagine if YOU had brought massive speakers with organ sound blaring for the duration of the raid?! Not only is did he assist you in ensuring you get maximum attention, it is being paid for out of CoS coffers -- and he can't blame you for making "all that noise that makes shooting films impossible" (the excuse that has been being used for more than a decade in trying to shut down Gilman Hot Springs road of traffic).

That's just, just... I'm searching my Thesaurus here... nope, 'bizarre' it has to be. How could DM have possibly have devised a better way of showing everyone on Gold Base that he can't handle Suppressive People?

Oh wait, I got one. Earplugs.

Plus, it occurs to me to ask, what happened to the 'Keith Henson and associates' tactic? Did someone at the DA's office do a reality check and realise that banning everyone who agrees with Mr Henson about Scientology isn't going to stand up in court?

Gumby, I was thinking about you during this thing, and how YOU GUYS got cited for honking, and here they were blasting this air-raid siren for literally hours. The cops said since they own the land (1,000 acres?) that no one else was being disturbed. Huh?????

Anyway, the cops were pretty nice (except for being all over AnonOrange for where he walked...He got a big lecture about walking against traffic, meaning if we wanted to walk the opposite direction, we had to run across this busy street. This was for our own safety somehow. I don't want to bash the cops though. They had to wonder after it was done why this people would make the effort to come out there with these STOP THE BEATINGS type signs.

LBV, we talked about you all the way up there. Benny's Friend even printed out some of the things you had said to say, and we passed the list around in the car. Anonorange and AGP read it, too. AGP was great by the way. He even was THE VOICE OF REASON at one point when we were leaving and wanted to drop the list off at the guard shack. He said, NO that's going on their property and inviting trouble.

There was one point where the sound stopped and we shouted ourselves hoarse. Also it would stop for about 10 seconds every 10 minutes. And we would all start shouting.

Here's the PI story:

So, we're driving away in the rented minivan, and after a while notice a black pickup truck. It has no plates, as it's brand new. We decide to pull over, and let it pass. It goes by, and now there's a huge distance between us. So we continue on, and a few signals later, there's the black pickup again. We didn't want to be too paranoid, but decide to pull up beside him. AO gets a shot with his camera, and it turns out to be a Hispanic guy with a girl in the passenger seat. We start to laugh, thinking now that we over reacted, because what self-respecting PI follows people with his wife/girlfriend in the car? In a big huge truck no less. So we continue on, taking back roads back to AO's place. It's very rural and spread out. Horses, cows, etc. We turn down an country road, and guess who's behind us? Yup, Mr. Black Truck. So we park, because we had actually taken this back road to check out this Scientology school in the middle of nowhere. After taking photos, we go back to the car, and guess who is parked 50 yards down the road? The black truck. AO and BF immeditately go, "Let's go up and talk to him."
