It is off-putting to hear English speakers portraying Germans. The distinctive German-accented English is far superior for films. I wonder why the decision was taken to have Wonder Bread English spoken in Valkyrie? When I watched the trailer, my mind kept defaulting to all of the WWII movies I have watched in my life. I kept thinking that I was listening to the Americans. Then when I saw the German uniforms, there was dissonance. I wanted to see General Patton speaking English and not Colonel Von Stauffenberg. It is theatrically disconcerting.

We have a trailer, but will Valkyrie ever launch? I will believe it when I see it. BTW, the trailer sells director Brian Singer and not Tom Cruise.

The late great Paul Newman got the ultimate Tom Cruise out of Tom Cruise. In Color of Money he made Cruise act the natural arrogant strutting cock that he is. He makes me want to eat my own vomit.

It's shit. Like I said before, even Hogan's Heroes had authentic actors and accents! It all boils down to Tom's just not a good enough actor to carry an accent for a 30-second spot, let alone a 2+hour film.

Since that's trailer 2, I went to watch trailer 1. At the beginning, our Tommy says something like "~everything~ is a dangerous word." His inflection, intonation is exactly, and I mean EXACTLY that of our other Tommy, Tommy Davis, when he told John Sweeney "I have ~nothing~ to hide!" in the Panorama programme!

Such a pity that such an important story is being told using Tom Cruise. And it's not just because of all the scientology reasons I have for disliking him that I think he's wrong for this role. He's just wrong for the role.

Except for one irony: exchange Miscavige for Hitler. Not that I'm saying someone in the CoS should literally assassinate him, but the parallels of an out-of-control leader who needed to be stopped surely occurred to Tommy boy when he was making this film?

Or maybe not.

I can see why the Germans hate this film having been made by someone from, of all organisations, the CoS.

Colonel Klink and Sargeant Schultz were both played by native German speakers (who both happened to be Jewish and happily made fools of the Germans in Stalag 13).* Thanks to them, we know what REAL German-accented-English sounds like. And it's not Tom Cruise's flat New Jersey blabber.

Actually DC it even goes deeper than what wikipedia states about Hogan's Heroes.

Howard Caine (Maj. Hochstetter of the gestapo) who was also Jewish, would spit on his armband after he took it off after shooting for the day!

When it came to Klemperer & Banner, they only agreed to do the show if their characters were always portrayed as buffoons (it was literally a requirement by both of them because they did really have to escape the nazis as did Clary [LeBeau] & Askin)!

You are right, it is so ridiculous that the *Great* (sic) actor Tom Cruise wasn't capable of doing a German accent!

It's just going to make the film seem that much more poor a recreation.
