This seems as good an excuse as any to start a "Tom & Katie Go To Oz" discussion thread ahead of their stay in Australia for the shooting of Katie's next movie this summer.

I don't know whether the cult is getting a bit ahead of itself prior to the Cruises long stay in Australia and Miscavige is promising his flock a Tom Cruise shill that he can't deliver, or whether Tom Cruise has actually planned to go back to his old ways and agreed to do PR for the cult. If the latter then we could be in for a real summer of lulz.

In the Daily Mail today:

"Tom Cruise's latest mission ... to recruit for Scientology in Australia"
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... ralia.html

OK there is no direct proof but we have seen previous press articles where the desperate local cult of scientology is clearly expectant of something more than just a visit or two to the org. Just what the hell else would he do in all those months whilst Katie is shooting the movie? ANZO has taken some serious losses in the last year and they will want to take full advantage of Tomkat. How far will he go? He must surely know that he is entering hostile territory.

Is this normal?...

Katie will begin shooting in August amid tight security. Sources say the cast will have to sign 20-page confidentiality agreements and the couple want to recruit a large ‘entourage’.

Nicole Kidman has visitation and vacation rights with the two children she and Tom adopted. IMO, Tom is killing two birds with one stone:

1. Tom is letting Nicole have their kids for a few weeks. He remains physically close to them in case Nicole says something SP and he needs to immediately swoop in and rescue his Scientology children from SP Mom Nicole.

2. Katie is a stepmom. She may want alone time with just Suri and Tom.

As for Tom evangelizing, I have serious doubts. His movie career is still recovering and the last thing he wants is the global media doing a refresh cycle on Oprah, Matt Lauer, and Go to Guns and Xenu. Best to let sleeping BT's lie. Here is one scenario: ANZO is a hotbed of rebellion against that small rodent Miscavige. Perhaps Tom is hooking up with an OSA mission visit the churches in Oz/Kiwiland to put in some ethics? This would be a good cop/bad cop thing: Tom is good cop and you get to meet him if your stats are up. OSA is the bad cop and they will punish downstats. Tom Cruise, as he warned us, will not hesitate to put anyone's ethics in. I have always believed that Tom Cruise is non-uniformed SO who case supes/counsels Scienocelebs and handles backchannel stuff at CC Int that is too heavy for Tommy Davis to lift.

I think you can count on that, especially if - and I agree with Swifty that it's unlikely (but you never know) - especially if Tom decides to say something about Scientology on a TV show which he'll undoubtedly be invited on (thinking chanel 9 despite the fact packer owns only 5% of it now).

Hee hee. He should know he's in hostile territory, but with the very effective denial TRs embedded in him, you never know what foolishness he might pull. Going to be interesting. :P

You better believe we'll be doing something down here! We'll spread the Anon word like you wouldn't believe. I still think Tom will be regged heaviliy to help finally move the Melbourne Org from Russell Street to Ascot Vale.

Sydney/ANZO is clearly showing signs of being in its death throes.
http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthread.php?t=11761
Will Tom Cruise help jumpstart Australia/New Zealand or will he just cause more bad press and draw more public attention to the batshitness of his destructive cult?

The Daily Mail probably threw in the Tom Cruise promoting scientology in to the story to add spice to what would other wise be quite mundane.

That said, if Tom Cruise does start promoting scientology I would hope Aussie Anons will take appropriate action.

The company producing the film is Miramax. Hmmm? Disney again. John Travolta does a lot of work for Disney. I'm not drawing any conclusions on this yet. Right now that's just an observation.

It depends on what the actors agree to keep confidential. Film producers do have confidentiality agreements (usually built into the contract) on aspects of their films such as plot points, locations, endings, the look of the monster (if there is one). That's normal.

If the confidentiality agreement deals with keeping confidence on scientology matters, Tom Cruise's behavior, and that sort of thing then that would not be normal.

This movie is based on a made for TV movie from 1973 also called Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069992/ As we are looking at a remake of some kind I think a confidentiality agreement on aspects of the film is probably rather pointless.

The only cast member listed so far for the current film is Katie Holmes. Unless this film gets some very heavy hitters working on it I am categorizing it as a B movie with expectations of doing about as well critically and financially as the remake of House of Wax.

All of this leads to some interesting mental juxtapositions: Katie Holmes, Kim Darby, Paris Hilton, Tom Cruise, Stepford Wives, Omaha Beach, On the Beach, The Exorcist, Waltzing Matilda, Nicole Kidman, yellow couch, black turtleneck. (This is not "A=A=A" per dianetics. Much of people's natural thought processes involves juxtaposing. Scientology, of course, interferes with that as much as it can.)

As far as I can tell most of the action of Don't be Afraid of the Dark takes place with interior scenes. This begs the question, why are the producers doing a B movie remake on location in Australia?

I passed the Melbourne Org last night on the way home from work, and it was pretty much business as usual. Was rather expecting it to be closed up, ready for the Messiah's arrival. Oh well. :P

IN THE three years since Tom Cruise last visited these shores, sources in Melbourne claim the Hollywood actor's security requirements have more than doubled, with his current Australian sojourn resembling a visit from a head of state

Quote:
While a spokeswoman from the Church of Scientology talked down plans for a pow-wow between Cruise and church members during the visit, she did volunteer that the church was "very proud of him".

While here primarily as a family man, Cruise will do his best to fortify his church during his two-month visit.

He has already reconnected with billionaire Packer, a casual member of the flock, and tonight is expected to use his 47th birthday celebrations to promote Australia's highest profile Scientologist, singer Kate Ceberano.
