Gather round all you lurkers. Lets take a trip down a rabbit hole only America could build. Lets explore the root of all our collective angst when talking about scientology. How we as a nation have allowed a bat shit crazy quasi-religious group of tin can holding misguided souls to breed offshoots, with their basis in fact , on the writings of madman and all around nut case L Ron Hubbard. Each of these groups and or entities can trace its core teachings and roots back to L Ron Hubbard and scientology.

With the new media coverage being lavished on the so-called church of scientology, many old and new groups are being overlooked. Lets start with a list of what this poster see;s as blatantly fraudulent entities that use L Ron Hubbards teachings as the foundation of their organizations.

1. Church of Scientology. Founded by Lafeyette Ronald Hubbard.

2. WISE.

3. ABLE.

4. CCHR.

5. Narconon.

6. Freezone.

7. YFHR

8. Applied scholastic's

9. Marty Rathbun's new and improved scientology.

Please add to this list. These houses of fraud have been accepted by YOUR FEDERAL,STATE, LOCAL governments AND YOU THE CITIZEN. This poster questions the WHYS and HOWS these fraudulent organizations have been allowed to flourish within our communities. Hiding behind the 1ST amendment and religious status has allowed these groups, riff with grifters, snake oil salesmen, con men etc, to reach deep into the pockets of many unsuspecting and or gullible individuals. When did YOU the local citizen become so dumbed down, that you feared holding those that work for YOU accountable for their actions (government officials)?

There is more to this picture than the ABUSE of the 1St amendment. This issue runs far deeper. Scientology just happens to be one of many 1ST amendment abusers. Without government oversight, frauds like scientology and its many crumb catching offshoots will continue to propagate. Only you the local citizen can put pressure on your government officials. If you do not do so. you will watch more and more of your rights slowly being trampled on. Apathy does not help a nation grow and prosper.

I found a new front: Artists for Human Rights, "founded" by Anne Archer, rich fading actress and mother of Tommy Davis. Note 1
Michael Wisner, prominent CoS member, is on the board. CoS promoted it, Note 2

Scientologist Priscilla Presley photo at "Hero Awards"
Artists for Human Rights South Africa, shows a photo of an offshoot.
Note 3

AHR "partners" with Human Rights Division, Church of Scientology International. Note 4

AHR Spokesperson is Scientologist actor Erika Christiansen

Fronts like this stroke the egos of rich CoS public, rich has-been celebrities, and publicity hungry emerging celebrities.

Gumby,

Do you mean to tell me that you would trust the govt. to decide what is or what is not "legitimate" regarding free speech/free expression/freedom of religion etc.? No amount of Cof$ abuse is worth that.

Youth for human rights.

Another group that paves the way for the 'acceptance' of scientology.

I feel the lack of oversight by the Fed has led to the manifestation and perpetuation of this cult and its various front groups. Without the nod from the fed, these organizations would never exist. The rule of law must be upheld. Hiding behind the cloak of non profits and religious organizations in the manner scientology does is abuse of the 1st amendment.

Thanks for the heads up DC. Is it me or are many of these celeb's heads in the sand in regard to the accusations being lodged against their own so-called religious organization? Are these people so out of touch, they are blind to human rights abuses right under their noses? I would think the first place AHR could do some good would be what is transpiring in the S.O now. Though I applaud the effort and concept, which of course is not original and has been done before in the past, I cannot see through the hypocrisy of it all. If scientology has anything to do with this organization, it is IMHO just another fraudulent entity.

..And lets' not forget either: Writers & Illustrators of the Future

Also a Scientology Front.. On the cults own 'org board' it's Author Services.. A Hubbard safepointing PR operation.. This frontgroup makes less noise than some of the others. The outfit is meant to popularize Hubbard and sell his books. No 'warfare' specified in their mission orders. Just grab the credits and accolades of the intire SF field of literature and illustration for Hubbard.

Hey Schimmel, I just scanned over the list of judges on the site you linked here. Are any of these people aware of or practicing scientology? If so, how does this organization promote the "Tech" ? Is money exchanged here? Does RTC reap any financial benefits from this groups sales? I would image RTC does receive money, as it is the copyright holder of the LRH library.

EDIT: Guess I should go deeper into the sites link before I start asking questions. I have never read anything Hubbard wrote within the science fiction vain, with the exception of Dianetic,s. Are hubbards scifi novels riff with the same ideological stance as laid out in Dianetic,s? If so, I would say they are in all probability a rather boring read.

Hmm.. I hope not.. With notaries like Gregory Benford, Orson Scott Card, Anne McCaffrey, Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle and Robert Silverberg.. I'd be seriously disappointed if a man like Niven condoned Scientology or was a member... Well, I'm disappointed that he's there on the judges board as it is.. It shows that he didn't do his homework with respect to who Hubbard really was.

Anyway, I don't think any of 'em are scilons.. I even think, if they really looked, that they'd discontinue the 'association'.

I do know that Author Services do not mention Scientology.. They hardly mention that Hubbard founded the religion. They 'separate' the subjects effectively.

This video from the site: The Last 25 Years of the Writers & Illustrators of the Future Contests, progadandizes Hubbard into a position of 'Source' of the pretty much whole SF shangre. Note that Hubbard is only mentioned for his SF writing works. Not a peep about any religion..

Author Services do not require either, that the writers or judges be scientologists.. Ostensibly no censuring.. But you can be sure that a book that is critical of scientology or Hubbard will never be seen there.

Gumbythetruth wrote:

It doesn't.. No promotion of tech. No promotion of Scientology.. That part is downplayed, so as to make the contest palatable for the SF community.

The 'PR product' is Hubbard popular and seen as a benefactor of SF field. Nothing more..

I don't know that specifically.. But Author Services collects all the royalties for booksales, both SF and the religuíous books in CoS, and the profit from that was/is meant to go to LRH. And now that he's dead to RTC I'd guess...

Booksales is a major income source I think.

Well, the quality of Hubbards SF will be a matter of opinion.. I've read 'BattleField Earth' and the 'Mission Earth' series. I found 'em entertaining, without being very thoughtprovoking.. It's light stuff, in the vein of the Superman or Flash Gordon stories.. Not full of scilon philosophy either.. Mission Earth actually reads as a satire on Scientology. The Guardian's Office is very obviously the (criminal, foolish and evil) 'Apparatus' (Government Intelligence Service) in the story. Headed by the evil LombaR Hisst (So Hubbard seems to be making fun of himself too!).. Quite hilarious in places. With a current true blue scilon laughing for other reasons than an ex-scilon.

Writers of the Future is pretty harmless compared to the other groups. I did find out it's under the mysterious scam-pipeline Author Services; I put it (along with the above fronts and a bunch else) on my CoS Org Chart at http://ocmb.xenu.net/ocmb/viewtopic.php?t=31561
