in the very first paragraph of his very first post, that isn't a clue that the boss is a Scientologist?

BTW Smurf, if you're going to pass judgement on me, get with the right program. LOL....my crimes are supposed to be against critics, not Scientologists.

Your punctuating a response with "LOL" demonstrates your flippant & personal bias in the matter. Just because an employer is a Scientologist and a badly behaved one doesn't mean he's committing crimes (except in your mind). There's a whole lot of temperamental employers out there that have no connection to Scientology. If the OP is concerned about losing his/her job over the matter, talk to an attorney or seek employment elsewhere.

But it's reaching to compare a work place environment to the RPF. I'm betting that the OP isn't being required to wear black boiler suits to work.

RPF comment was a reference to a slow progression of being more and more abusive, demanding, uncaring and more importantly unappreciative. As progression of scientology has been introduced into the company the progression of inappropriate behavior and disturbing personality change of my boss has escalated. If I become completely convinced that Scientology is the cause of this companies problems I will leave the company. I'm not looking for a law suit. However, I have a family to take care as do most of the other employees so unfortunately to assure your families best interest you are forced to indur behavior that may be unacceptable until you can improve your employment situation. My boss has had no problem telling us in this economy if you don't like it try the unemployment line.

I think it might be a good idea to get another job, if possible. Even if your boss doesn't do anything "illegal" he can probably make life miserable.

i can only agree with Glib; Get out of there as fast as you reasonably can. The guy will make your life miserable, and probably fire you anyway if you don't play along. :) Good luck!

Hi Westendboy,

It does sound as if you should be looking for another job if you can.

Have other people left the company and found jobs? If so, perhaps you could check with them. In this economy
and depending on where you live and the type of job, it may not be so easy to find any job.

If/when you do start looking for another job, IMO, it would be a good idea to keep it mum....even from your co-workers so it won't get back o your boss until you can inform him that you are leaving.

Good Luck,

Tigger

I appreciate all your input and advise. I also believe we think similary on this issue. I haven't figured out where Smurf really stands. I kind of feel Smurfs on the pro side rather then con. I will continue to research and learn about Scientology. I have a strong feeling that it has a lot more damaging effect on not only scientologist but innocent associates of scientologist. I plan on doing my part to dealing scientology a damaging blow. Look forward to hearing from you on advise and your opinions on future topics.
Thank You,
WestEndBoy

I understand your situation perfectly, but in the United States, unfortunately, employers have the advantage under "right to work" laws that give them the right to hire & fire anyone for anything, and in multiple cases, do so, thereby, violating the law but covering up employer misconduct by claiming the employee's work performance was at fault. You only have to Google "employer abuse" and there are thousands of references to complaints & lawsuits against nasty employers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-to-work_law

I suggest you read:
http://counterknowledge.com/2008/12/for ... nt-rights/

When it comes to a Scientologist employer using the workplace as a means to force employees to take cult courses or be fired, your only option is to file a lawsuit, I'm afraid. If you threaten him with legal action, he'll find a reason to fire you. Bad employers could care less about your financial situation or how the economy affects you. In their eyes, loyalty is paramount. Do what you're told without complaint or question. Otherwise, find another job.

Another thought......

You might contact the EEOC and see what their advice would be.
It seems your boss is in violation of several things.

If there are several employees or former employees (non-Scientologists) who agree with you, perhaps a group action lawsuit could be filed with the help of a pro bono attorney?

westendboy,

Get a hold of a copy of Margaret Singer's, "Cults in our Midst." She highlights several cases where employees took legal action against bosses who turned out to be Scientologists and began to run the workplace in Scientology-based ways --basically, forcing their beliefs upon the employees.

I'm not saying you should sue! But she does a good job delineating what's okay and what's not okay, legally-speaking.

Thanks everyone. It's great to know that their are people out there that understand this issue and are willing to offer realistic advise without judgement. It's been my past experience that Scientology issues in the work place is a hard thing for people to understand who have no understanding of what Scientology is about. Also it's hard to grasp that having a boss that at one time was a fantastic, caring and concerned boss can over the course of a couple years slowly change to a point that borders on abusive and illegal. I can only hope that there are others out there experiencing a similar problem and read this story and see the assistance, help and understanding I've receieved and better their situation. I know I will. I will also make sure I pay forward the help I have received .
Thank You
WestEndBoy
