Note; April 1 2012 - Thread topic renamed (was: "Scientology Sunday Service: Your Open Thread For Worship"), since Tony now combines his two regular scientology spots "sunday funnnies" and "commenters of the week" into one posting.
For previous scientology commenters of the week articles, search media forum posts on that title.

Scientology Sunday Service: Your Open Thread For Worship (Or Whatever)
by Tony Ortega, Village Voice 6th Oct 2011
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninsca ... gy_sun.php

Quote:
We're trying something new in the underground bunker this morning. It's that first dawn after the clocks have changed here in the U.S., and we find ourselves with an extra hour to play around with. Naturally, our minds turn to things Miscavigey, and we can't help wondering what you, our loyal readers, are pondering this first morning of Eastern Standard Time (or wherever you are).

So we're doing something about it. We're launching a Sunday morning Scientology Open Thread, looking forward to your thoughtful, funny, acerbic, or edgy contributions for whatever it is you'd like to talk about. And, to get the juices flowing, we're going to start things off with some fun images that Scientologists send out to inspire each other. (Um, in most cases, inspire each other to fork over money, that is.)

We'll start off this first installment of Sunday Funnies with a rip-roaring call to shell out cash for Orange County, California's new "Ideal Org"...

This week, we have a couple more things to look at before the free-for-all begins...

We begin with this somewhat terrifying cash grab from Down Under. Want this kid to have a good world to live in? Send us money for buildings we don't need! .....

Scientology Sunday Service: Your Thanksgiving Week Open Thread!
by Tony Ortega, Village Voice. 20th Nov 2011
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninsca ... _sun_2.php
Quote:
We have some especially good Sunday Funnies for you this week as we open up a thread for our loyal readers to jabber on about whatever they want.

We figured they better be good Funnies, because chances are Tobin and Childs are sucking up all the attention in the Scientology watching world this morning with the next installment on their epic new series. (And if so, how happy we will be, actually.)

So on we go to the latest images from our friends at Scientology, who come up with such creative ways to beg for cash, or hard labor, or whatever...

Scientology Sunday Service: Mind Control and Your Open Thread
By Tony Ortega, Village Voice. Sun., Nov. 27 2011
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninsca ... _sun_3.php
Quote:
First up, hold on to your wallets as Scientology makes yet another bid for your time and money. Who wants to join the push in San Diego to raise cash for a new empty building?

[...]

Second, we're curious what you think the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, Scientology's anti-psychiatry front group, means when it talks about "mind control." I mean, you talk about the pot and the kettle...

[...]

And finally, there's this lengthy announcement about sailing the Freewinds for Christmas. Filmmakers, come rub elbows with fellow cinema buffs as you hone your inner Thetan for the coming billion years!

[...]

Well, that's what we have for you this week. By now your reactive mind should be boiling with engrams. So join us in the comments, and let us know what you're thinking about this week. Only one rule -- there are no rules!

Scientology Sunday Funnies: Your Tax Dollars at Work
by Tony Ortega, Village Voice. 4th Dec 2011
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninsca ... _sun_4.php
Quote:
Scientology doesn't really have a Sunday service. They like to say that they do, because they crave mainstream acceptance. But unless Xenu rested after six days and L. Ron Hubbard just forgot to mention it, there's no reason for Scientologists to treat Sunday any differently than every other day of coursework, detoxes, fundraising, and generally clearing the planet.

So here at the Voice, we've come up with a Scientology Sunday tradition of our own, and we call it Sunday Funnies! And we have a particularly good lineup of goofy church mailers for you this week, starting with that reliable source, the San Diego org, which this week is rubbing its tax exempt status in our noses!

Ah, San Diego. These folks really outdid themselves this time. Boasting about how the government (read: you taxpayers, suckers!) will help church members move up the Bridge to Total Freedom!

Scientology Sunday Funnies: In the Sea Org at 18 and on Top of the World!
by Tony Ortega. Village Voice. 18th Dec 2011

Quote:
We have a youth theme this week. First up, a come-on for the Commodore's Messenger Service, which started out in the late 1960s with the teenagers L. Ron Hubbard had running around the ship Apollo doing his errands. On Scientology's current cruise ship, the Freewinds, young CMOs enjoy authority beyond their years, as we learned in the story of Ramana Dienes-Browning recently.

Scientology Sunday Funnies: Happiness Coming to a Library Near You!
by Tony Ortega, Village Voice 8th Jan 2012
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninsca ... _sun_8.php
Quote:
Up first, a plea to get more copies of Ron's little book of bland propaganda into every library in the country! [I've cut out some stuff in the middle to have it fit here.]

[...]

Next, yet another sober appeal to join the Sea Org. Is this enough to convince you to give up the next billion years?

[...]

And finally, more Scientology gloating over its special tax exempt status, which not even members of other religions in America enjoy. Let Uncle Sam help you help yourself!

[...]

And so we begin a new year of Scientology mailer madness. Please, feel free to discuss anything at all in our comments section!

Scientology Sunday Funnies: The "Thrill" of Fundraising!
By Tony Ortega Sun., Jan. 22 2012 at 8:00 AM
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninsca ... sun_10.php

So here at the Voice, we've come up with a Scientology Sunday tradition of our own, and we call it Sunday Funnies! Our sources regularly send us Scientology's wacky and tacky fundraising mailers, and each week we choose three of them to gaze upon, hoping that it inspires you to wax eloquent in our comments section. So here we go...

Another creative come-on from the folks in South Africa! Last week we marveled at their Arabian Nights stylings, this week they thrill us with the "thrill" of...fundraising? Ahem. Well, there's still time to sign up for next week's fun -- we're sure it will be a gas!

Tony wrote this about Chill E Buzzard..

In this item from the Pasadena org, we were especially intrigued by a reference to the "Pasadena Org Hip-Hoppers." Could Chill EB have some competition? I call for a rap battle!

Funny you should mention that Tony O ! LOL* "Pasadena Org Hip-Hoppers."

The CCHRFlorida You Tube Channel has a video "CCHR Florida on Good Life Tampa Bay with Chill EB and more"

where they held a Contest for "talent" *cough* in 2010 the judges were from "Clear Track" productions in Clearwater *rigged cough*

The winner *cough rigged cough* got some free studio time in the Scilon run recording studio

You ask...who was The Winner of the Talent show *cough ringer*

The Winner was announced 4:09 in the video and IT Was Our Very Own Chill E B!!
He even got a shiny certificate

*the fix was on cough*

Even when Scientology has a "fake contest" for amateurs it fails

protip: google "CCHR Florida on Good Life Tampa Bay with Chill EB and more"

Rigged contest Much Scientology!

The comments from the Jan 29 V.V. article were funny; although one was wrong that African dancers were a minstrel show. Minstrel shows were white people in blackface, an unthinkable show in the US these days. African dancers deserve as much dignity as Russian or Chinese dancers.

Scientology Sunday Funnies: The Denver Miracle!

Last week, we brought you a pretty spectacular mailer from the Sydney org promoting an upcoming Ideal Org fundraiser with a Star Wars theme. We've seen a lot of these fundraising party fliers, but very rarely do we see the parties themselves. (The Birmingham, England tropical blowout was a wonderful exception to that rule.) And this time, lo and behold, we have a stunning report of the Sydney night of Jedi fun! Take a look at these Obi Wans and Princess Leias having a wonderful time as they pry more cash out of the hands of their fellow church members! Apparently, there was also some kind of Easter Bunny fundraiser, and if someone can tell us what it's doing on the same mailer, we'd be grateful.
