LOL. This is a hilarious account of someone who decide to treat a friend from the East Coast to brunch at the Celebrity Center, and a chance to see paranoid, stressed out Scientologists in their own environment.

It's amazing to see how things still seem to be identical to how it was back in the early 90's.

It's literally like they live in a perpetual time capsule. Or as Magoo always says, it's like they are living in their own private Truman Show.

It's mystifying.

And of course she draws the "I'm not a Scientologist, but..." comment!

Didn't know that they had an open brunch...will have to check it out. Will give it 15 minutes before I am 'respectfully' asked to leave.

Brunch is now $18 a person, I think. The cult publicizes the Renaissance Restaurant in ads in Hollywood tourist mags offering a 10% discount to lure them in, but it's gotten a bad rap because of the ultra-paranoid presence of security staff roaming the Celebrity Center property & their trying to shove Scientology down people's throats.

The restaurant primarily serves Scilons staying at the CC for services. If you can put up with the price of the brunch and Scilons waiting with anticipation to bait you in after you've finished enjoying your brunch, the food is quite good.

"They've got a problem say, 'Hey, I want to talk to you about that. I want you to come with me. We're going to do down to my church. We're going to have lunch.' Oh, they've got a great place to eat there."

From the Ideal Org Crusade video. I cannot find a pristine version of that video on Youtube. All the copies of it, as far as I can find, have had satirical things done to them.

Here's a pretty good one. The part you're talking about is at 00:57.

My FAVORITE part of this video is at 3:00 when Lisa Uvizel says, "The psychs are out there and they have a lot of money backing them up."

I wonder if a day will come when she looks back at that and slaps her forehead and says WTF was I doing?

That's not Lissa. The video is made up of only publics, not Sea Org. I recognized Denise Duff, her husband & brothers.

I was very happy when the brave blogger referred to the Lawrence Wright article on Scientology, when the issue came up of what she knew about Scientology (when confronted by the Celebrity *Centre* staff). I sometimes thought that maybe, since The New Yorker isn't targeted to the massses, it would perhaps not be as widely read as it apparently has been. NPR and other entities did a good job of promoting it in the U.S.

When we protest, some of the people who stop to talk to us will frequently say, "Yeah! I read that article in the New Yorker!"

$18 isn't really that bad if you're getting fresh food, some bacon, fruit...maybe a couple decent pastries. But the entertainment value would make it a bargain...go to a toy store..pick up a real good camera imitation...a BIG one....and just put it on the table when you start eating.....take a few bites....pick up your camera and snap a few make believe pictures...then have a make believe cell phone conversaton after you snap the pictures....then just wait till they come over and give them your toy camera...get up..make believe you're offended and about to leave...but just go up and get another big plate with a big helping of dessert. I'd enjoy that...wouldn't make up for all my wasted years with them, but hey...gotta have a little fun at their expense. Should be in the area sometime this summer. May take a friend or two.

This would result in you getting tossed out of the restaurant, without even a doggy bag. An expensive endeavor.

Restaurants have a legal right to refuse service whom are unreasonably rowdy or causing trouble as interpreted by the restaurant manager.
