Scientologists demonstrate against the "indoctrination of judges"

About a hundred Scientologists held a demonstration on Wednesday, May 2 in Paris against the "instrumentalization of judges by the Interministerial Mission of Vigilance and Combat against Sectarian Abuses [MIVILUDES]". Gathered in front of the National Magistrates School (ENM) in Paris on Île de la Cité, the protesters wore stickers that said "Indignant Scientologist" and they denounced the new 2012 training session for judges on "cult abuses."

Chanting "MIVILUDES, thought police" or "MIVILUDES, hands off the justice system," they waved placards that said "No to the indoctrination of judges" and "No to the stigmatization of beliefs."

AN INSTRUCTOR "HOSTILE TO SCIENTOLOGY"

Their spokesman, Éric Roux, denounced the fact that a former Renseignements généraux policeman whom he accuses of being particularly hostile to Scientology gave a training session in October 2002 "right in the middle of the investigation concerning the case currently pending before the Court of Cassation," referring to the "organized fraud" conviction against the two principal entities of the Church of Scientology in France which was confirmed by the court of appeal in early February 2012. They were handed fines of 400,000 and 200,000 euros.

The Scientologists have appealed this decision to Court of Cassation, arguing in particular that Arnaud Palisson, the Renseignements généraux officer, posted an article on his blog on February 7 in which he says that he trained the investigating judge responsible for the Scientology case.

Responding to a question from AFP, the general secretary of MIVILUDES, Hervé Machi, said "This demonstration is the reflection of a group that is in a state of desperation and is using all possible means to intimidate public authorities in their efforts to protect the victims of abuses by cults." He emphasized that "the training sessions do not stigmatize any group and their purpose is to define the offense known as abuse of weakness and to explain how to deal with it according to the law and in practice."

I wonder how on earth the scared up 100 Scientologists. Maybe they brought some in from Eastern Europe or something. It really looks like they don't want to be there.

La scientologie manifeste pour la première fois devant l’Ecole nationale de la magistrature

Scientologists protest at the National Magistrates School

Photo caption: In front of the Paris branch of the National Magistrates School today, about fifty Scientologists demonstrated their hostility toward a training session aimed at judges on the subject of cults.

At noon today on the Quai aux Fleurs, outside the Paris branch of the National Magistrates School (ENM), at least fifty black and white picket signs were raised in unison and the persons holding them up hammered slogans like "No to the indoctrination of judges" or "MIVILUDES, hands off my justice system." The demonstrators were Scientologists and they were there to protest against an annual training session for judges that begins today.

"Judges are subjected to conditioning by people who are hostile to the Church of Scientology," said Éric Roux, spokesman for the organization. The "people" in question are members of UNADFI (National Union of Associations for the Defense of Families and the Individual, which defends victims of cults) and MIVILUDES (Interministerial Mission of Vigilance and Combat against Sectarian Abuses). These two organizations provide a three-day training session on "cults" to young magistrates who are ready to graduate.

A man perched on stilts came with a placard that said "National Magistrates School" and it was suspended under a wooden cross like a string puppet. Others tried to hand out fliers to the motorists who slowed down as they drove by.

For the Church of Scientology, the problem is that UNDAFI constantly seeks registration as a civil party in the trials brought against Scientology, even though it trains the judges, and this, according to the church "infringes the separation of (judicial and executive) powers." At the most recent Scientology trial, UNADFI was denied status as a civil party, but the church was convicted by the court of appeal on February 2 and fined 600,000 euros for organized fraud and illegal practice of pharmacy.

"What would you think if there was a training session about Jews?"

What irritates the Scientologists is being "targeted by this training as a movement," said Éric Roux.

"What would you think – I'm intentionally choosing a provocative example – if there was a training session about Jews? We've kept a low profile for a long time, but today we are publicly stating that we are sick and tired of being stigmatized. We want this to stop and we want Scientology to become a religion like any other."

On the road, the M6 television network anchorman Bernard La Villardière interrupted traffic with his two cameramen. He is currently preparing a documentary about Scientology and he tried several times to record his famous program introduction in the street. Followers of his show Enquête exclusive will be interested to learn that he needs several takes to make it a wrap.

There were no police to monitor the protesters, only four men – who did not wish to speak – guarding the entrance of the National Magistrates School. This Scientology demonstration had the look of a "flash mob." Éric Roux corrected us: "We would call it a 'flash raid,' as Anonymous says against us."

Thanks for the translation. I wonder why the two articles have such a difference in the attendance. One says 100, the other says 50. Looks more like 50 to me. This really made me laugh:

I think Anonymous is much more effective

Scientology spokesman Éric Roux claims on his blog that, not 50, not 100, but 200 Scientologists protested on May 2 against those who, according to him, indoctrinate and disinform judges about Scientology.

Source: http://www<.>ericroux.com

The press release posted on Éric Roux's blog alleges that a judge who was investigating the Scientology case attended an October 2002 lecture by Arnaud Palisson, who is singled out as "particularly hostile to the Scientology religion," and that the judge refused to reply to a 2004 letter from a Scientology lawyer asking her if she had attended anti-Scientology training sessions at the National Magistrates School.

The press release also says that the document (Arnaud Palisson's doctoral thesis) which, as Arnaud Palisson wrote in his February 7, 2012 blog entry, never left the judge's desk, was never entered into the Scientology case file and that this was totally illegal and violated the rights of the defendants.

Was that one scientologist on stilts or did Tom Cruise cause him to grow?

The only indoctrination clams approve of is when they are indoctrinating a curious brain and scrubbing it clean.

(Just can't thank you enough for the translations - for a while I tried to do a fraction of what you actually achieve, and I'm properly impressed.)

"ministre" - OK, that is apparently used in French, but still..

And love the photo of Eric "not guilty, but representing the guilty" Roux in a dogcollar - vampire chic, anyone? At least he looks marginally more happy than Graeme Wilson in the famous "WTH" poster :)

Best Regards

Jens

This part caught my eye ("abuse of weakness"). Started googling. Found this excellent explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/About-Picard_law

More googling... planning on reading the following:

2. Analysis of the Legal Difficulties of an International Affair Spanning South West France and Oxford: a Family under the Influence Forced by a guru into Reclusion and Ruin

I found this article to be very interesting. It describes certain protections of individuals (against cults) which do NOT exist in the USA.

In the USA, an adult is considered of sound mind to enter a contract (no matter how bizarre or unbalanced the contract is) unless and until they have been found not of sound mind (usually in a court of law). Because of this, cults and other predatory organizations can commit the widest and heinous of frauds just by changing the mark's mind and getting the adult to "agree" to the terms. (Mark as in con man and his mark/victim.)

Because of this bent in the USA's legal "mind", it has been very difficult to get any redress of wrongs for victims of cults and cultic-type organizations in the USA.

However, in France, things are different. This might perhaps be Scientology's "Achilles Heel".

Are there Sea Org members in France? How many? To what extent do they operate there? Are there many ex-SO French people?

I think this avenue bears investigation.

First, read the above-mentioned article. It's pretty interesting. And post what you think.

P.S. If you start a different thread, please PM me (or post the new thread link here) so I'll know about it and can join in.
