The Sun UKJive Aces tried to lure me into cultEx-member tells of 'brainwashing' bid
Quote:
A FORMER member of Britain’s Got Talent stars Jive Aces claims the band tried to “brainwash” him into becoming a Scientologist.
Guitarist Johnny Gunner says the other members tried to control his behaviour after they joined the religion — and he felt relieved to leave the band.
Johnny, 47, said his old pals were introduced to Scientology — set up by L Ron Hubbard in 1953 — by a man handing out leaflets in London.
Soon after, Johnny of Southend, Essex, was asked to move in with the band. He said: “They were being brainwashed.
“I thought I was in danger. I was in the band to play music not be part of a secret religion. It got to the stage where they said join us or leave. They were a strange bunch.”

No I’ve never brainwashed anyone...I’m just a geezer from Essex – Says BGT singer Ian Clarkson JIVE Ace Ian Clarkson last night blasted the suggestion he was brainwashing people into becoming Scientologists.
Quote:
The leader of the Britain’s Got Talent band said: “I’m just a geezer from Essex who just happens to be a Scientologist.”
Ian hit out after a former bandmate accused the Jive Aces of trying to “brainwash” him into joining the religion.
He insisted: “I try not to push Scientology because it’s all about thinking for yourself. You have to find out for yourself.
“If anyone asks I suggest people ought to read L Ron Hubbard — the guy who put it together — and then see what they think.
“There’s no brainwashing. Brainwashing is basically what we do the opposite of. Scientology and spiritual counselling wake you up. You become more aware.
“Brainwashing is planting something into you. It’s like hypnotism. We’re doing the opposite.”
