Partner in firm that represented Clinton joins Patton team
FRANKFORT (AP) — A partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm that represented former President Clinton in his impeachment trial has joined the legal team defending Gov. Paul Patton against accusations made by a western Kentucky nursing home operator.

Gerald Feffer is a partner in the Williams & Connolly firm. He did not represent Clinton in his impeachment trial, but his clients have included the Church of Scientology and New York hotelier Leona Helmsley.
...........more.

Kentucky is the state where Tom Padgett's exwife and her wealthy, influential parents live and where Tom is in jail on trumped up charges.

Any news you can report here on Tom's Padgett's circumstances (that isn't confidential)?

This whole sordid soap-opera with the governor is beginning to embarrass us in Kentucky.

Just for background: Governor Paul Patton is being sued for sexual harassment by a woman named Tina Connor, with whom he had an affair in the late 90s. She owned a large nursing home and was going through a separation and divorce from her husband while she and the "Luv Gov" (as some of us now call him) were doing the nasty. She tried to end the affair and he wouldn't let go. One day some state inspectors came to her nursing home, found a bunch of violations which caused her to lose Medicaid funding for the home, and sent her into bankruptcy. So she's suing him.

Lots of sleazy details are coming out about the Luv Gov. He was being considered as a serious challenger to Republican Senator Jim Bunning, but now his political career has been trashed. So he's hired a firm that has worked with Scientology. This should be interesting.

Hi BG,

No I really can't, (it is confidential at the moment) but Tom is epected to be released next week and then he can tell all the unconstitutional things that were done to him.

Tom Padgett is in a Madisonville, Kentucky jail as I post. Two years ago he was in a Kentucky jail. Here is a reply I received from Governor Paul E. Patton's office after I sent a letter to Gov. Patton concerning the civil rights abuses in the state of Kentucky in the Padgett case in February, 2001 (see google link below the letter)

Commonwealth of Kentucky
Office of the Governor
700 Capitol Avenue
Suite 100
Frankfort, Ky 40601
(502) 564-2611
Fax: (502) 564-2517

February 19, 2001

Dear Ms Wilson:

Thank you for your recent letter to Governor Patton relating the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the case of Thomas Padgett.

We certainly appreciate and understand your concern and frustration over this matter. However, Governor Patton has no authority over the judicial system nor the authority to intervene in any matter pending before or decided by the Courts. We suggest that the best course of action is for you to consider consulting with private counsel for advice.

Although Governor Patton is concerned about all Kentuckians, please understand the need for him to remain neutral. We have to believe that our judicial system does work and serves the best interest of us all even when the outcome is not exactly as we feel it should be.

I wish there was more we could do for you, but unfortunately this is a matter which will have to be resolved in the courts.

Sincerely,

Selina R. Riley, Paralegal
Executive Secretary
Office of the Genial Counsel

Since neither Tom Padgett or I were Kentuckians, the statement: "Although Governor Patton is concerned about all Kentuckians" seems odd as does the rest of the letter. If judges and/or courts were being used to wrongly incarcerate an innocent person and then releases him in prison clothes miles away from the prison and tells him he had to find his own way back, you would think a governor would be concerned and would have the Attorney General investigate.
