Hubbard's use of hypnosis - Dianetic's true SOURCE revealed

He is now talking about something in the prior and following paragraph that is described better as "autosuggestion" or as "autosuggestion via implication" Hubbard uses tons of this, and this is the main conceptual block that prevents current victims of covert hypnosis and scientology from recovering... because they look at the (autosuggestion via implication of "facts") as "evidence" that something is there, and know rightly, that IT is not classic hypnosis, which is true, but I have not been able to master this part of Hubbard's deceit well enough to not confuse the reader further...when I try to explain it.

In the lecture excerpted below, Hubbard essentially claimed that he revolutionized hypnosis. He admitted to using about twenty known phenomena and in particular remarked about using hypnosis to cause a highly dissociated condition for purposes of control. Scientologists sometimes experience dissociation as "exteriorization."

Once upon a time they were mystic, magic, miracles. And then one day they become as solid as this table, at which time they are established phenomena. Now, that is what we are dealing with now, and in Dianetics I have tried consistently to deal only with established phenomena, no matter where it came from. It is very odd, but much more phenomena came out of the field of religion and mysticism than came out of any other one subject. But don’t think that other subjects weren’t investigated.

For instance, hypnotism has been in existence — that I know of — for about thirty-five hundred years. The phenomena of hypnotism in those thirty-five hundred years was known just as far as it went. It was recognized that you could relax another human being and what you said to him would then become effective. Or that you could cause this other human being to dream or travel to far places while he was under this “spell.”

Now, here we have phenomena. They have known that. Charcot tried to establish other phenomena in the field of hypnotism — posthypnotic suggestion and so forth. Later on they tried to work out a dream therapy. Strangely enough, no new phenomena were recovered. [Wikipedia: Charcot]

And now we come up in Dianetics. Hypnotism was practically in its virgin state: there were maybe four or five phenomena known there, and we have suddenly taken these, we have taken them apart, we have looked at them, and out of them we have got about twenty phenomena and we can use them.

And one of those phenomena is the shift of the control center. You can watch it happen. You can watch it occur and you can feel it occur. It is a physical sensation. It is a physical sensation to your preclear and it is a physical sensation to you, the auditor.

Think of the last time you audited somebody — when you sat down to audit them. How did you feel at the beginning of the session? How did you feel at the end of the session? At what time during the session did you start to actively control the limbs and memories of your preclear? Is your control center still there? Well now, actually, all you have got to do is sort of say to yourself “Just take it back,” and your own feeling of individuality will go up.

There is a man we once admired who really liked using shore stories. When we would go out on missions, we always had WHAT WE WOULD TELL PEOPLE WE WERE DOING - you know, like when a religious group calling themselves United Churches of Florida started buying properties in a sleepy little town in Clearwater, or that gal, I think it was Paula Tyler, (who later married my old best friend Gary Lowe) who told Paulette Cooper, that she was doing a 'survey' 'to save the whales" or something, THAT was a shorestory. and Paulette held that clipboard in her hands and signed it... little did Paulette know that a piece her own letterhead paper had been taken from her own home office by a man working for scientology who also told her the 'shore story' that he 'loved her'... The fingerprints they got from her on that piece of her own letterhead that had been taped to the back of the clipboard face down down were used to send a bomb threat - which itself was an elaborate shore story that the FBI swallowed hook line and sinker and then criminally prosecuted her.

Hubbard mentioned a man named "Estabrooks" in a PDC tape, who was a famous hypnotist, whose specialty was military grade hypnosis, who states in one of the later chapters of his 1943 book Hypnosis (we have the 1st half webbed HERE) that:

all that is required to induce a person into the deepest trance states possible is to cause that person to repeatedly imagine something that is not there.

Consider, if you will, the possibility that 'auditing to get rid of body thetans" might have also been a "Shore Story".

Freud et al. considered the "Prenatal" and 'past lives' to be delusion.. but not Hubbard! But remember, Hubbard was a master of hypnosis! LINK and he was a master of shore stories.. and....he admitted on a PDC tape of having read the man who said this:

What if the story of BTs, Prenatal engrams and Between Lives rubbish was all just a shorestory to cause you to repeatedly imagine something that is not there.

What makes you think, now, knowing the facts above, that when you first read Dianetics, and became convinced by his shore story, to try it..that Hubbard wasn't just fair gaming you, too ?

some small boy stand in a narrow door-way pressing out,
with his hands held down at his sides, and pressing out on
the door frame. Then he will have the boy step away, and
into the room, and he will say, “Your hands will now rise.”

Of course the residual muscular tension that has built up
will cause his hands to float up in the air willy - nilly. The
child thinks, “What happened to me I no longer control
myself.” The hypnotist can then implant (into this now

say, "These are the symptoms of paranoia. Yes, that’s
the way all paranoiacs act, and that’s what they claim
—that somebody has drugged them. You have to send
him to the insane asylum." And they would send him to
the insane asylum and give him electric shock or give
him a prefrontal lobotomy.

THE FORMULATION OF THERAPUTIC
SUGGESTIONS FOR USE WITH
DISGUISED TECHNIQUES

Elsewhere in this book, in giving the rules for the formulation of suggestions, we have stated that these suggestions should be stated in the present tense.

The rule does not apply where the subject is unaware that he is being hypnotized.

Suggestions given to the hypnotized subject for extreme relaxation and anesthesia. and post hypnotic suggestions (such as continued freedom from tension, freedom from emoti9onal depression, and even post-hypnotic anesthesia) can be stated in the present tense because they can be explained as by-products of 'extreme relaxation".

For other suggestions the patient must be given the basis for accepting the idea. For this purpose the placebo is an excellent tool. The physician can casually but forcefully mention to the hypnotized subject the fact that he is giving the patient a specific medicine which will do the specific job. He can describe the effect on the patient in great detail. He can then administer the placebo while the subject is "relaxed". "so that the medicine will have an opportunity to act".

Suggestions for future changes in the physical or emotional condition of the patient can also be based on therapy which has been in progress or upon contemplated therapy. In this case the suggestions must be formulated in the future tense. In all cases where disguised technique is being used, avoid the type of suggestion which has no rational.

Techniques of Disguised Hypnosis

"Relaxating" the Patient

Before using this technique, determine the patient's reaction to "being touched." Some individuals find the close personal touch involved in this technique disagreeable. For those few the effect of "back rubbing" is to increase the tensions rather than relax them. The great majority, however, will find the method very soothing. For the few exceptions, use a disguised visual fixation technique, or one of the other methods described in the preceding pages. (A word for word technique for the eye methodbegins on page 12)

Place the patient face down on a couch, treatment table, bed, etc., in a comfortable prone position. Make sure that earrings, belt buckles, things in the pockets, and other lumpy objects will not interfere with the patient's comfort when he is fully relaxed. Use a gentle soothing touch. This is not a massage to break the muscle tension by force. it is a friendly "caressing" type of touch, the kind you would use petting a dog or cat, firm and gentle, not vigorous.

I think that a lot more scientific research will have to be done before we can get a believable summary on what hypnosis really is.
I suspect that brain research on this will eventually provide the answers.

Perhaps all it took were some of these techniques and a nice stage setting, With GROUP agreement (2 or more people nodding in agreement that THERE IS SOMETHING THERE or THERE IS NOTHING THERE, depending on what accomplishes the desired effect in which to distract the rubes long enough from looking at the BIG PICTURE to extract the money from his BANK (account) or whatever other INTENTION towards the desired EFFECT was being implied..

Evidently there is something there...that makes money...if an unscrupulous man without a conscience were to surround himself with the same ilk, perhaps he could fleece sufficient people to build an Empire of Greed.

In TR-0 that is extactly what we PRACTICED for HOURS.. staying awake in a trance...we were Hubbard's somnambulists.. he told us what we would hear, see, feel, and think, and DO...
