Vote online: A chance to tell Germany that CofS is a cult

Just in from a pro-Scientology email. Now is your chance to make it known that Scientology is a cult.

Subject: Innenminister fordern Verbot von Scientology
(Secretary of the Interior demand ban of Scientology)

Dear Scientologists,

There is currently a vote going on at Zeitung der Welt (Newspaper of the World, www.welt.de) to pursue the ban of Scientology in Germany.

Please visit the following link and vote against the ban:

Vote on Scientology: http://www.welt.de/politik/article14399 ... te_1438839

Halfway down the page there are 5 choices.

The first 2 choices vote to ban Scientology, the third choice votes to protect Scientology and Germany's religious freedom, the 4th choice votes to protect Scientology since otherwise other organizations would have to be banned, and the 5th choice is undecided (ie I don't care).

Please vote for the 3rd choice "Nein, denn in Deutschland herrscht Religionsfreiheit". This means: No, because Germany protects religious freedom. Then select the "abstimmen" button to submit the vote.

Please make your vote count and pass this on to every Scientologist that you know!

ARC,
Max

So far it looks as the cult has hit the site hardcore. The third choice is at 66% already. Go figure. I wonder how long it will be before they figure out that the cult is rigging the poll.
Dear DM,
Enjoy the INTERNET! Get comfortable for we are going to be here for a LONG time!

I wonder if anyone here who knows German can write to the site and tell them what's going on.

Critics arise!

I got my vote in.

Top marks. That would be the wise thing to do rather than making it just as invalid by trying to skew it the otherway.
Yes, if someone with command of German language could alert the newspaper to that cult email and typical cult tactics then that would be nice (tell them to check IP address locations of voters) and perhaps include a link to the article where the cult was exposed for doing the same thing in another online poll (Parade magazine I think it was).

The five choices can be roughly translated as: (courtesy of babelfish)

1) Yes, because the Scientology sect is a psychosect, which pursues only economic interests
2) Yes, because the Scientology sect is not by any means a religion
3) No, because in Germany freedom of religion prevails
4) No, because then other organizations would also have to be forbidden
5) It's all the same to me

At the above link, the voting will appear at the top left of your screen.

Press the "abstimmen" button to "submit" your vote.
The button "ergebnis" shows the results of the poll.

Maybe someone that speaks German could email the editors and remind them of the Tom Cruise parade.com web poll debacle of last year and the Sydney Morning Herald poll debacle this year?

German poll

Done. That should warn them. Anyone can post on that site. - and it is inundated with clam comments. I put in my two cents' worth. If you want to flick through the comments - just click on "Kommentar." If you're going to post there, now would be a good time since most of the Euros are in bed. zzzzzzzzz.

Vongole, Your email helped.
Welt online tells the story of how Scientology tried to manipulate their online vote:

Psychosekte

Wow, I'm impressed. They posted my original posting, closed the voting poll, and explained that it was because of the Scios manipulating the results. [Though I don't speak German and Babelfish may do a poor translation job, I sure got the gist of the article.] Thanks, Vongole, for passing it on in German to the right people.

I guess it really is a manipulation even if the Scios don't use mechanical means to increase their own votes with multiple votes per person. When the voting is intended to "sample" the regular readership, and instead it is passed around to non-German speaking people with instructions on "how to vote" and "which option to choose", that shows intent to manipulate the voting results and nullifies the test.

That's not exactly a proper "sampling".

Glad they were caught at it and exposed.

LOL! I sent an email too, about half an hour ago. And you still can vote! The article was published two weeks ago today, and the CULT scores 74% now.

Church of Scientology caught trying to fix Welt Online readers' poll

Well, thanks really to you guys - Sea Horse and Alert - another Bitch Slap for the cult. The power of the internet! Those Germans sure caught on to their scam pretty quickly - and then wrote it up! Hilarious! Do not mess mit Welt Online, ja!

Footbullet, bitch slap - call it what you will - one doesn't really have to make anything up - just report what they are actually doing. In effect, Scientology is doing itself in by its own actions.

pip pip!

Are scientologists really THAT stupid? I would have denied the existence of such an email. Not this one!

That's funny, I'm a Scientologist and that's not the email I got. The email I got was:

Sent: 12/16/07 6:29:47 PM
Subject: Fwd: German newspaper poll - Tell a friend!
"Please send this to all with an interest in the subject matter.

"Please visit the site and vote your conscience. Show these poll-cats what you think.
"http://www.welt.de/politik/article14399 ... ology.html
"(The poll is a couple of screens down, on the left.)"

There was no suggestion on how to vote at all.
