Subject description: Disscussion on what we can do about this.

In Arnie's thread on what is going on at 'flag' he brings up the subject of passports. We have known about this for some time.

What happens is the sea organization takes people from countries to different countries and then takes away their passports. That turns them into prisoners because they can't get their passports back and they fear reprisals from the country they are in. (If I didn't state that well enough, feel free to rephrase it.)

This behavior on the part of the cult, I'm sure, takes place everywhere in the world. It probably happens with a larger number of people in Clearwater, Florida and in Los Angeles.

Arnie suggested a picket sign with a phone number for pickets and that's good. Are there other things that can be done about this?

Personally I have no clue whatsoever on laws about what to do about being in a foreign country and losing a passport. Although if I were in a foreign country and lost my passport I would contact the nearest embassy or consulate to find out what to do about it.

I can think of a number of things to do with the information of what to do should someone leave scientology without their passport.

A web page with instructions about what to do about this could be constructed and posted somewhere. Then Andreas, Arnie and others could link to it and direct attention to it.

Very brief instructions could be put on business cards. Maybe could put up as a pdf file so people could use it with those business card sheets you can get.

I'm just throwing out some ideas here. Beyond that I really don't know what to do about this, but I think there are enough people associated with the Bake that can supply the needed information and set up ways of using it. So how about it?

Embassies and consulates are good. Depending on the country you can get a new temporary passport within days or even withing minutes, if you have an ID and can convince them it is an emergency. It is going to be more tricky if you are not in a location that has an embassy or consulate of your country.

Let me guess. There aren't any consulates for any countries within five hundred miles of Clearwater?

How about LA?

A list of all the consulates, including contact information, within easy distance of sea organization facilities would be useful to have then. A new thread on this is in order. I'll start it.

Please, keep any ideas on this coming in - even if you think your idea is unproductive - it may have the seeds of something good.

If a foreign CoS worker went to any police car, or police station, and said CoS was holding his passport, wouldn't the police MAKE CoS give it back?

Of course the worker would still have to face having no money and having to leave the country because he's no longer a religious worker. This is where the nearest consulate for his native country could help. These consulates exist to help their fellow countrymen who are in a pickle.

Los Angeles Consulates: Almost every country has a Los Angeles consulate. Google:
"Los Angeles" & consulate & Italy
or whatever your country's name.

Tampa Consulates:

Consulate of Panama
(813) 283-0063
1101 Channelside Dr, Tampa, FL

Consulate General of Greece
(813) 865-0200
601 Bayshore Blvd, Tampa, FL

3. Consulate of Norway
(813) 247-4550
1803 Eastport Dr, Tampa, FL

4. Consulate of Costa Rica
(813) 248-6741
2200 Barker Rd, Tampa, FL

5. Consulate General of Republic (?)
(813) 831-6685
4326 W El Prado Blvd, #4, Tampa, FL

US Border Patrol
(813) 228-2160
1821 E Selman Dr, Tampa, FL

Consulate of Peru
(813) 933-7318
2312 W Waters Ave , Tampa, FL

If you're from Clearwater, and your country doesn't have a Tampa consulate, Google:
Miami & consulate & Italy
or whatever your country's name.
The Miami consulate should help everyone from their country who is in difficulty in Florida.

I've been googling up some info here and there about illegally confiscating passports - it's tied into International Law and on par with "trafficking in persons" i.e., a form of enslavement. In this country only a government offical can confiscate a passport for either a citizen or non-citizen. So it's totally illegal. I don't know what the penalty is but I'm sure it is severe. If they get caught, Davey will probably act like he knew nothing about it and blame his underlings in the S.O. But, somehow, I don't think he will get away with it this time. They are going to be in such deep shit.

Just wondering about this....

If a $cientologist say, jaywalks, and a peace officer stops him or her and asks for I.D., what does this $cientologist, whose passport has been confiscated, produce?

What is the consequence of not being able to produce ID?

If the cop stops me and I'm a national with an Age of Majority card or a state-issued driver's license, the cop can look me up on his or her car computer and have a picture of me ON an image of my license in minutes.

What happens to the Bolivian Ronbot who, without a passport, jaywalks?

He would probably be held for questioning and asked if he has a passport and then the next question would be where is it and who is holding it. Either he will lie like a dutiful little Scientologist to cover up for the cult or spill it out. Either way, somebody will be in deep shit.

Au contraire, there are oodles in Miami -- 104 directory entries! Looks like all the South American countries, Central American, Canada, Europe, Japan, Thailand, Europe and Lebanon. (There's probably more than that; I just glanced down the list.)

"For my own safety and security my legal documents are being taken care of by my sponsor ." They will lie and cover up and take the blame for being out with no ID.

Are foreign sea organization staff members allowed to be in a position to jay walk?

Usually not, and in fact we were drilled in local laws such as jaywalking. Nowadays, staff are not allowed to drive or walk around but are shuttled on busses. But back in the good old days, if any one got in trouble for anything they were sent to ethics for "pulling it in."

What is the most numerous foreign nationality in the sea organization in Clearwater?

What is the most numerous foreign nationality in the sea organization in Los Angeles?

This goes in waves, depending on which country has easy INS approval. Right now, it seems a lot of asian, slavic and middle eastern names appear on completion lists, whereas in recent times there were more South American, African and southern European. 90's, Mexican, Indian, asian, Russian and African. In the 80's, there were more Australians, UK, Danish, German, South African, etc.

Thanks Ladybird.

That's not the answer I wanted for the questions about the most numerous foreign nationalities but that's OK.

I was hoping to identify one or two nationalities/languages. It would then be an easy matter to identify the nearest consulate for that nationality and translate:

For Help
With Your
Passport
555-555-5555

Where the 5s are replaced with the number for the nearest consulate.

This could then go on some signs during a picket in the hope that some of the inmates would see it.

So it's going to take a little more effort.

Another aspect of this would be to get the authorities to grant refugee status to any of the foreign nationals leaving the various sea organization facilities.

Well, I'm sitting here stumped. Anyone want to jump in and help crack this nut?

Look at the completion lists by name at (for example):

http://www.truthaboutscientology.com/stats/stats-name-search.html?searchname=wiseman

Or click on any of the magazines listed by year and by Organization and do an analysis of the ethnicity of the names. Please note, no sea org or staff completions are listed, but outer org students are counted and listed as they are paid completions for Flag and PAC. Much of what I see here are 2nd generation scientologists and outer org trainees. Lots and lots of scientologists will be found numerous times on these lists, repeating the PTS/SP course for the Nth time. Google "Terbush" for one...

Alrighty then Wieber. Here ya go! You might have to scroll down a bit, hope that doesn't hurt your thumb. Wink

US department of State religious visa page: (see section (m))

http://uscis.gov/lpBin/lpext.dll/inserts/slb/slb-1/slb-9974/slb-12541...

http://pjclaw.net/index.html

1. Who can apply for a religious worker visa?

Religious worker visas are available to people coming to work for a
religious organization in the United States as a minister, in a
religious professional capacity, or in a religious vocation or
occupation. "Ministers" are individuals authorized by a recognized
religious denomination to conduct religious worship and perform other
duties normally performed by the clergy.

"Professional capacity" means that the position the individual will be
working in requires at least a bachelor's degree.

A "religious occupation" is any activity which relates to a
traditional religious function. Persons in a religious occupation
include liturgical workers, religious instructors, missionaries,
religious counselors, workers in religious hospitals or health
facilities, cantors, catechists, or religious broadcasters, but not
janitors, clerks, or persons involved solely in the solicitation of
donations.

A "religious vocation" is a calling to religious life evidenced by the
demonstration of a commitment practiced in the religious denomination,
such as the taking of vows.

4. How much do I need to be paid?

There is no set answer to this question. To qualify for the visa, the
applicant must show that he or she will not become a public charge, that is, rely on
assistance from the government. That means that the sponsoring organization
must offer to cover all the applicant's expenses (as in a religious order, for
example) or to compensate the applicant sufficiently.

Although there is no stated minimum salary for religious workers, my
office generally recommends individuals receive compensation worth
125% of the federal poverty guidelines, or about $12,000 for one
person.

5. Can I work in a second job in addition to my religious occupation?

R-1 status only allows you to work for the sponsoring organization;
outside employment is not permitted. However, it is possible to have
two or more organizations of the same denomination sponsor you for
part-time work with each organization.

Once you obtain permanent residence, you can work outside of the
sponsoring organization.

8. What is the process for obtaining the visa?

R-1 nonimmigrant status. If you are outside of the United States, you
do not need to file a petition ahead of time. You simply take the
supporting documents to a US consulate to apply for the visa.

If you are already in the United States on a different nonimmigrant
visa, the sponsoring organization files a petition to change your
status to R-1 religious worker and extend your stay.

Permanent residence. Whether you are in the United States or abroad,
the sponsoring organization begins the process by filing the immigrant
visa petition with a CIS service center. Once the petition is
approved, you file an application for permanent residence with CIS, if
in the United States, or, if abroad, apply for an immigrant visa with
a US consulate. You become a permanent resident once you enter the
United States with the immigrant visa.

10. What if I am out of status?

If you are out of status (i.e., you have overstayed your visa or you
entered without one), in most cases you cannot change status to R-1
religious worker or adjust status to permanent resident. You may be
successful by returning to your country to apply for the religious
worker visa, but there are serious penalties for staying in the United
States illegally. It's recommended to speak to a lawyer before
choosing this course of action.

If you were the beneficiary of an immigrant visa petition (I-130 or
I-140) or labor certification before April 30, 2001, you may be able
to adjust status to permanent residence under section 245(i).

Welcome Thalkirst! I read your other thread too, what a story you have!

There is a poster on OCMB and Enturbulation.Org called "AnonMomAnon" who lives in Clearwater (Flag) and is very concerned for children from Hungary and other European countries. She is working with Amnesty International to try to help families from your area. The critic Shawn Lonsdale (who died recently) took video and pictures of children from your area. I am sure she would love to hear from you...are you registered on those boards yet?

I have been very concerned about Visa abuses by scientology for some years.

Also, OSA FLB has some kind of a line to the US Dept of State in case something went wrong here locally.

They drilled the recruits on what to say and kept sending people back again and again to get them out to FSO. Some of them could not even speak English properly.

But around 1996 fortunately some losers who were recruited have completely pissed off the official who handled the visa, so for about 1 year it was pretty hard to get an R1 visa.

It got "handled" by OSA later though.

I have a lot of information to back up what you are saying here. There was a lot of abuse and inside deals with Embassies, people were drilled on getting B-6 (Visitor) Visas good for 6 months, and if they couldn't extend or marry a US citizen they had to go back, then apply for H-3 (Training) visas, then apply for extension under R-1 (religious) visa. There were many other scams I heard about, though I was not directly on that line. We were told we had to do things this way because there were "SP"s in the Immigration service or Embassies who hated scientology.

Here is a letter I wrote to the authorities for someone who went through all that:

I look forward to hearing more from you, and I hope we can help.

FSO recruiters in Hungary had a complete hat pack on how to handle US embassies on this matter.

OSA had all the details on each and every interview the applicants got and they had all the phone numbers and names of all officials.

ladybird?

i'm not a member of exscn.

can you PM or post over on exscn to thalkirst that he needs to send this information by email to aiusaso@aiusa.org which is the southern division of amnesty international. they cover the southern division, which is clearwater. HOWEVER, they looked over what we sent them and they have forwarded everything to their national headquarters in nyc.
the email for that is aimember@aiusa.org

thalkirst CAN remain anonymous...he does not have to include his name. AI is aware of the anonymous group, but they are also used to getting things from people that have to remain anonymous.

i would also suggest that thalkirst contact amnesty international for hungary.

INCLUDE IN EVERY EMAIL THAT THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO THE INFORMATION THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SENT TO THE SOUTHERN DIVISION ABOUT SCIENTOLOGY/FLAG/CLEARWATER/RELIGIOUS WORKER VISAS/ABUSES. MAKE SURE THAT THEY PUT THAT INFO AT THE TOP: THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT AI IS ALREADY LOOKING INTO AND HAS ALREADY BEEN PASSED ON TO NYC AND THIS IS INFORMATION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDED!

if anyone else in here has ANY information that you know of and are willing to send it on? you CAN remain anonymous.

they are not sure if they can help us or not. they believe us---we had a LOT of good insider info and many of us DID put our names to our statements. they want to help us, but are not sure how they will be able to yet.

the information is at the nyc office right now.

the acting director at AI southern div. will call me as soon as she hears anything back. (i did a follow-up call with her last week and found out that info.)

please forward that info to thalkirst, ladybird? hugs to you, ladybird!! <3
