Subject description: Actor hopes the "church" doesn't get offended

NY Daily just did an interview with the newest addition to the Law & Order cast. During the interview they asked which story lines he has enjoyed.

Which story lines have you enjoyed?

We just did one about Scientology and I've got some good friends who are Scientologists, so I hope they're not offended....

Wonder what the episode is going to be about. Always been a L&O fan. This is just icing on the caek.

Edit: Here's the original link:

Win!!!!!!!! Now is Scientology going to bully NBC and get it removed? I'm hoping to see that major networks are less afraid of Scientology. Could this be what Arnie or Tory are talking about?

Didn't L&O do a show about Scientology a few years ago? It wasn't called that. Church of Divine Faith or something, but clearly resembling Scientology. That was when Vincent Di'nofrio (spelling?) was the big star. I think the story was that this cult drove someone to suicide through heavy regging etc. Time to bring it back for another go?

I think Tory's big thing is entirely different.

If he has friends who are Scientologists, I totally suspect a watered-down episode on the subject.
Hope I'm wrong and they get their "diss" on on the cult.

Whether watered down or full fledged up and ugly, I hope that the network does not cave.

Never seen the Criminal Intent episode with the veiled reference to the CoS. Maybe we'll luck out and they put that in re-run rotation the same week. ;-p

I guess Sisto's friends haven't seen all of his work on Six Feet Under. Sure he played the screwed up son of psychiatrists, but the show also depicted him as more level under medication, and completely off-the-rails when he went off it.

But as far as the CoS is concerned, mental illness, let alone bipolar disorder, doesn't really exist... Rolling Eyes

From the NBC website's page on Law & Order:

NEXT ON:

Bogeyman (TV-14)
A novelist's murder leads detectives to suspect a controversial cult, but prosecuting the case could be a challenge.

Spacecootie - I wonder if they are going to touch up on Fair Game (judging by that description)

Ze episode is "Con-Text" from season 2

http://www.tv.com/law-and-order-criminal-intent/con-text/episode/220667/summary.html

Quote:
This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of the Lisa McPherson case. McPherson died from starvation and dehydration after being kept for over three weeks in the Fort Harrison Hotel located on Church of Scientology property in Clearwater, Florida. Late in the episode, the character of Douglas Morgan tells Goren that he's 'not clear'. According to Dianetics, Clear is a condition in which a person is no longer influenced by any previous memories, traumas or negative emotions. Karen Black, who plays Douglas Morgan's mother Vera, is a long-time Scientologist.

LAW & ORDER
BOGEYMAN
04-30-2008 10:00PM

THE DEATH OF A NOVELIST LEADS THE DETECTIVES TO SUSPECT SOME INVOLVEMNT FROM A CONTROVERSIAL CULT BUT PROSECUTING THIS CASE PROVES TO BE A CHALLENGE

A novelist is found dead in her car, which appears to be a suicide at first inspection, but Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) have reason to believe a cult known as “Systemotics” is involved. The victim’s husband, Bradley Cameron (guest star Daniel London) explains to the detectives that he and his wife were paranoid that members of the cult had been trailing them recently. However, Bradley comes under suspicion as the detectives begin to chip away at his alibi. When the case goes to trial, ADA Michael Cutter (Linus Roache) has trouble prosecuting his case when several members of the jury fear for their own safety. Sam Waterston, Epatha Merkerson, and Alana De La Garza also star.

Show Cast: S. Epatha Merkerson, Jesse L. Martin, Sam Waterston, Alana De La Garza, Jeremy Sisto, Linus Roache

A little riff on Dianetics there as well... heh

I'm watching this

Its on now. Cross between a bunch of different stories - but it really really really sounds a lot like Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake's story.............

Woohoo
Close as they could come without getting their butts sued off by Scientology.
Just watched it with my 77 yr old mom and had to explain some things to her about the similarities.
She said they are really creepy. I said "some religion huh" She said "not a religion, sounds like a cult".
People that do not know much about Scientology might have a hard time understanding.

Purification for babies drinking some strange stuff?? WTF…lol?
Fractured mechanics = fair game
The guy who invented it = not educated in what he wrote about
Mind control through fear
Gathering a file on people trying to expose them
Culties showing up in court staring at people trying to intimidate them

lololololololololololololololololol

What other similarities did you see?

Oh yeah, almost forgot.
Happy Birthday David!
I guess you won't be having your party on the Freewinds?!?!
