Booya!

Those videos were the most therapy I've had in quite some time.

Thanks, machwon.

Hehe. I just happened upon that when I was browsing youtube a little while ago today. Very amusing and well done especially with the appropriately inserted hubbard audio quotes.

Thanks for the YouTube links. That was very interesting.

Now, as I have said before, if I could get high res pics (where I can read the part numbers) on the PCB for the very latest digital e-meter I can probably tell you a few things about it from an embedded system (i.e. computerized) perspective.

pulleeze....there is nothing to tell, just computerized RUBBISH, to keep track of the TA motion, and the time (HA) and generate a network connection so the crowd can watch your needle reads if you plug in a cable to the back.
Do you THINK scientology works?

Yup, there isn't much to it really. Outside the church there is some digital processing in some designs so you can adjust the needle damping by adjusting filter coefficients, since the special underdamped meter movement is so hard to get these days.

Ultimately, the meter is a mechanical contrivance that can get in the way of the session if too much attention is paid to it. I suspect that is the real reason for monitoring and recording the needle movements in session -- to put pressure on the auditor and remove his intention from the PC.

You can build your own meter from instructions online (like the C-meter) and audit out the entities that bother you (if they exist in the first place). But I think that meditation might be way better than solo auditing.

I agree that this is not an important item. :)

I'm just curious about stuff like this because my career is developing embedded systems.

I opened mine up when I got it. It is 8051 based, for the timekeeping, tone-arm motion indicating, remote tone-arm connection, needle and tone-arm indicating serial data connection (for training supervision). However, this is a mid 80's design and not the latest and greatest. The latest ones have been sitting in a warehouse for a few years, since the old stock has been selling too slowly and the new meter course and materials are not done yet.

Ralph Hilton's C-meter uses a 24bit ADC connected to an AVR. Very simple and elegant. The best value in meters is probably the Russian-made Stalker (which I suspect is named after the sci-fi movie of the same name). And of course there is the top of the line Ability meter.

Yes, I know that there is one that has an Intel 8051. That is a very old 8-bit microprocessor. (I've programmed that one in assembly language many years ago.)

Dave Touretzky provided a URL link for me on ARS quite awhile back for the one you are referring to. I heard that this is not the latest e-meter, however as you said, others have said that the latest has not been released yet.

I think that this is the one that I am curious about: (pic from Dave's CMU site.)

Dear Mr. Swift,

By simply clicking on the link you provided, a body thetan that has been resolutely parked on my left elbow for the past three and a half years suddenly leaped off, shouting, "I'll get you my pretty... and your little dog too!" before dashing down the sink drain of my guest bathroom in a blaze of chartreuse glory.

I can't thank you enough.

BF

pg, that fancy e-meter drawing looks like a cross between a sandwich toaster and and dairy milking machine. Either that or possibly some kind of elaborate sex toy workstation affair.

Ha! Very funny. Ask Dave about that and see what he has to say.

This is clearly an alien sex toy, and not the real "new" meter. What dork would approve such a lame design? Worse yet, who would want to own one?
