CESNUR Came on my Radar

In one of Tony Ortega's Underground Bunker blogs he mentioned CESNUR.

What's CESNUR?

It's an Italian acronym for 'Centro Studi sulle Nuove Religioni,' 'Center for Studies of New Religions.'

Tony Ortega calls it a cult apologist group. Scientology sends office of special affairs staff members to its conferences, which are also attended by representatives from the Unification Church (Moonies). Search it on Google, read more about it and make up your own mind.

Here are some links.

It looks like cults are the member organizations of CESNUR. When I was on staff in a Scientology org, we knew the other organization with people out on the streets recruiting and fund raising were cults. We knew Scientology wasn't a cult. It was the one true way. I've since changed my mind. But we knew the other organizations were shams and scams. They were also competition for the people we wanted to help. (We wanted to help people. The leader wanted their money and their low cost labor.)

then in the late seventies the guardian's office, now the office of special affairs, made an unexpected move that surprised us. A leader in the guardian's office came and made a presentation. One of the items they covered in their presentation now referred to the cults, such as the moonies and Hare Krishna as 'new religions.' They went on to say that Scientology would be forming alliances with them. This was not popular among us at the time, but I'm sure the organization has handled all of that since then.

I wonder if they have included the cults that are Scientology squirrel groups and on the enemies lists. Eckankar still exists. I think the Process Church of the Final Judgment has either disbanded or transformed into something else.

On the surface the 'multi faith alliance' is congenial, but I think, given the means and opportunity, any one of the organizations involved would throw one or more of the others under the bus.
