Eternally Grateful for Anonymous
Please bear with my post. I see many people on CB that speak so eloquently, I for one speak plainly and simply. But since viewing part of some recent threads (no, I didn't read every word) I got the idea that some people feel Anonymous is a bad thing for the critics of scientology.
The last straw for me and this cult was in June of 2004, after almost 30 years in. I gave this cult my life, my soul, my identity, my mind, my free will. Years go on and I feel better, more myself but still struggling with the knowledge that the cult continues to hurt people and destroy lives.
Along comes Anonymous and I felt that maybe, just maybe there was hope that people would become aware of what this cult was doing. I went to my first picket because I knew Anonymous would be there and they would give me courage. And they did, I stayed and protested with them. I couldn't even pass out fliers, I was too nervous to do so. So I stood there with my sign very serious looking I'm sure. But not Anonymous. These beautiful souls educated the public, were courteous, courageous and stood there with me and expected nothing more from me. And they thought I was brave! Far from it.
The next time I stood with them, it was totally a different experience. They gave me something that scientology took away from me, some life force I quess you could say and for this, I will be eternally grateful.
I love you Anonymous, I thank you and I will always stand by you.

Back at you, the OG is an awesome and inspiring group. Yes it was courageous to come out and protest with us and trust me we all appreciate it very much.

Thank you so much for your kind words. You are truly brave, for daring to escape from the cult and for protesting.
While others don't agree with the Anonymous protests, I see them as important in raising public awareness and interest, and showing that there are people who oppose the cult's abuses and want them to stop. It is true that this won't directly change the law, but it does comfort ex-scientologists, and it even emboldens some to speak because they know they will be heard.
I think the general public does need to be more informed about Scientology, and this is the main purpose of the protests. A knowledgeable public reduces the number of new victims and increases the pressure on lawmakers. The sad fact is, most politicians are not going to do anything against the cult unless they think it will win them votes.
Other actions are of course vital, and they are complementary, not mutually exclusive. I agree with some of the anti-anonymous critics who say that it is essential to write to congressmen and the IRS with personal stories or evidence of abuses. Below are a couple of letter campaigns that have been suggested by others.
If any critics wish to distance themselves from Anonymous they are welcome to. We are not in this to steal your thunder or take credit for your years of efforts. We will always respect and value the "Old Guard" because of the wealth of experience, information and advice that has been generously provided.

The New York Times once asked "Can anyone stop Scientology"
The answer is YES, The United States Congress can
Have you or anyone you know been hurt by the behavior of Scientology?

Briefly share your experience with and knowledge of Scientology. If possible, offer to be a witness at a committee hearing. And ask for an investigation of the circumstances which led to scientology receiving their tax exemption.
This is NOT an act of religious bigotry or a hate crime. it is the BEHAVIOR of scientology that is so destructive

I must admit my admiration for Anonomous, as they have proven to be the biggest foe that $cientology has had to deal with. I really shouldn't say foe, but more as a strong challenger or contender that simply asks "WHY???". That is such a simple word, but it has a deep meaning and it can drive people to search forever for an answer to a question. Thank you again Anonomous.
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

How it made me smile to see your name!
And the other names: Peter Schilte, John Peeler, the others who are finding the courage to identify themselves. This, IMO, is so very important - people are LOSING THEIR FEAR of CoS.
I couldn't agree with you more - Anonymous have given people courage to speak out about CoS. It has been wonderful to see!
Roll on, Anonymous!
Roll on, OG!
Roll on, new friends who've joined the effort to expose this cult!
And to you, Martha ... thanks - blessings - healing - happiness.
Love,
Mary Ann

Anonymous is what it is.
But man, is it ever effective.
I only wish young people and the internet were as potent back when the OG started. Could have save a lot of people a lot of grief, energy, and heartache. Not to mention lives and reputations.
