Breaking up families is not unique to Scientology. It is an attribute of cults/totalist systems. In Alexandra Stein's Terror, Love & Brainwashing, she applies attachment theory to cults, which results in some, for me, new insights into the organization and practices of cults, which Stein also identifies as totalist systems. In chapter 5, Family and Friends, she deals with why cult leaders arrange to break family cohesion so that the leader becomes the primary attachment for everyone within the group. Cult leaders often set themselves up as the father figure or best friend. For example Scientology refers to L. Ron Hubbard as 'Mankind's Greatest Friend' ®. Unfortunately for the current leader of Scientology this status, still held by Hubbard, makes it difficult for David Miscavige to make it his.

Adrian Vanegas was 17 years old and had just graduated high school in his hometown of Bogota. He had been attracted to Scientology by its study technology. He quickly signed a 2.5 year staff contract and was appointed as the Director of Communications for the Bogota Org. Located in a private home in an upscale neighborhood, it would be twenty-five years before David Miscavige would pull a rope to open the big new 8-story Scientology Org in downtown Bogota. Adrian recounts many interesting stories of his time on staff in Colombia and gives us a look into Scientology in Latin America. Adrian left Scientology in 2005 and did a slow fade out from the organization.

Former Sea Org member Peter Nyiri discusses stories from his time in the Sea Org. Stories include the gifts David Miscavige received from Sea Org Orgs twice a year; the BMW shown in the thumbnail references the BMW David Miscavige received from a forced collection of Sea Org's meager stipend. Other stories include 90 hour work weeks; loss of canteen privileges; sleep deprivations; and punishments for not meeting money targets. This is all part of the hellish and punishing life that is the Sea Org.

Money was just taken out of the payroll for expensive gifts

Robert Dam stayed in Scientology working for years feverishly and departed 25 years later. He was declared Suppressive Person. This is a common "EP" at the end of the road in the Scientology experience.
Robert joined Scientology when he was a young man with dreams of being a professional musician.
He soon joined Scientology staff and his dreams of music soon disappeared under the heavy demands of statistics. Robert worked as a body router and held other positions as a staff member. ​

When Robert finished his staff contract he went into the printing business with a fellow Scientologist. Soon, the two were printing all of the magazines for Scientology Europe. This was profitable and allowed Robert to go up his Bridge and onto the OT levels. Robert figured out an ingenious solution that saved Scientology hundreds of thousands of dollars per year on costs related to getting its magazines delivered. But then there was a problem. ​

Robert solved it but he was nevertheless blamed for crashing all of Scientology's stats on the European Continent. Robert was sent to Flag for brutal sec checking. In this podcast Robert describes the terror of being sec checked by then Inspector General RTC Marty Rathbun. These sec checks had a brutal and expensive outcome. Coupled with Robert's inner torment with having to constantly pretend to others that he was an OT ate him up inside. Robert describes the events that led to he and his family leaving Scientology. He offers sage advice to those who are still trapped in Scientology and want to leave.​[

Notice how the next step after joining staff with Scientology is often utter humiliation. That's not an accident and it's not due to local misinterpretation of policy. It's directed from the highest level and it is a common cult attribute. As for "duplicating the tech," you can't. If Hubbard ever revealed his real intent behind the various actions everyone would see they were being had and leave. You have to read between the lines.

We have all heard about the intense GREED for money, a greed that is unsurpassed in modern culture.

There is a crude saying that goes, "When you've got them by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow." An attribute of thought reform, undue influence, and coercive persuasion to deny self determinism and impose external control is to take outside control over a person's sexuality. This is done through denial and/or enforcement. This comes up as a cult attribute in several books on cults, Captive Hearts Captive Minds by Madeleine Tobas and Janja Lalich and Terror, Love & Brainwashing by Alexandra Stein are two examples.

My experience in Scientology is that those involved with the organization, especially staff members working for it, have no privacy whatsoever. This is another control mechanism. Orwell illustrates it in 1984.

Jesse Prince describes the events in RTC surrounding the death of L. Ron Hubbard. As Hubbard lay dying at his ranch, David Miscavige and Vicki Aznaran at the Int Base called the ranch hourly to ask if Hubbard had died yet. Hubbard left no succession plan in his place so what happened as Hubbard lay dying, and immediately after his death, was what Jesse calls a "dumpster fire and train wreck." RTC put on the super-serious LRH Death event at the Palladium followed by a secret invitation only wild party at a home in Hollywood once owned by Liberace. There was great relief that Hubbard was death. The party featured lots of premium alcohol and heavy drinking. "There was everything there except cocaine" Jesse says.

Peter Nyiri, is on staff 22 years, 20 years of which are in the "Sea Organization" In earlier videos he covered the culture inside. 2 years he fled, escaped ~~ while on connecting flights he met with his wife at Tampa Airport and they fled together. You have to flee the Cult of Scientology. If you ask to leave you are segregated from the rest of the staff and make to do hard manual labor for a year while you wait for a counselor available to take you in session to "find your *CRIMES*. The mindset within is that only a criminal with hidden crimes would want to leave the cult.

Today I interviewed with Ron Miscavige, father of David Miscavige on the subject of why Scientology is a CULT. One of the features of a cult is absolute adherence to a Guru who is THE dictator and rules it all.
There are remarkable similarities between Warren Jeffs (now in jail) the supreme leader of the cult of FLDS and Miscavige. Especially in terms of how he called the shots of love, marriage, sex and sexual partners.
