Will Smith starts his own school

I will start doing some homework myself here. Probably scientology based.

http://newvillageacademy.org/index.cfm

I'm getting some of these with connections to scientology as completions but am having no luck getting into Kristi's site to confirm.

Under their glossary:
Study Technology - An educational model developed by L.R. Hubbard, study technology focuses on three principles. First is the use of “mass” (manipulatives and hands-on experiences) to foster understanding – children need to see and feel what they are learning about. Second is the attention to the “gradient,” which ensures sure students master one level before moving on to the next. Third is the “misunderstood word,” in which students master word definitions and are taught not to read past words they don’t know the meanings of in order to understand completely what they are reading and learning. NVA uses study technology as an umbrella methodology woven through the subjects.
They have scientologists as part of their staff. Why don't they just be up front that they are a scientology school? Why do scientologists deny their religion?

Will they be up front with parents who enroll their children or just use the acceptable truth that they just use the study technology?

Sisu Raiken, artistic director, performing arts teacher

Marcia Perkins, kindergarten and first grade teacher (Even though the name is fairly common, I think there's a good chance that's her, since all of the completions were at the Celebrity Centre)

James Oliver (Possibly the person named James Ian Oliver on the NVA site, who is in computer tech support; again, this person's completions are at CC)

Tasia Jones, Director of Learning

Sigrid Burket, Director of Qualifications and "Youth Specialist"

Andrea Beckham, Education Enrichment Program Supervisor ("She has nine years of experience using specific instruction that assists students and adults to learn a subject or clarify difficulties within a subject. Andrea has supervised hundreds of students using this methodology, which isolates and remedies specific barriers an individual runs into while studying")

Nothing for the top two names, though there is a Jacqueline Oliveira (not Olivier) here, doing one course.

Looks like we were working on this at the same time! :D Yes, I expect they found people through Celebrity Centre.

Thanks moontaco. You know when parents ask if it is a scientology school they will say "Oh no, we just use the study tech developed by Hubbard". I've heard it all before.

Scientologists = liars

Yeah, I know. I have seen so many reports of that.

I was looking at the schools website with so much to read and it all sounded so nice for awhile, until I hit the page which had Hubbtoads name on it.
That's so sad! :(

Note the school's motto: Spiral Up!
What does that remind us of? It would be nonsensical to anyone but a Scientologist.
Blech!!!

This is so sad. Another talented individual sucked into the cult.
D'ya suppose DM sees that TC's star is fading and is hitching his wagon to the rising Will Smith? Poor Will.

NVA incorporates best practices from current, widely respected educational theory in order to continually refine its curriculum.

The study tech comes nowhere near best practices in the classroom...

It is not "current" - it is 1950s Hubbard gibberish.
It is not "widely respected" - at least not anywhere outside the Scieno universe.

On the "Curriculum" page:
QUALIFICATIONS

Our Qualifications teacher works in unison with the teachers to help them so that all children are learning, progressing toward their goals, and happy in school.

Upon completion of a subject chapter such as in math, the teacher sends the student to “Qual”, where he/she is given an test in various forms. If the student scores anything less than 100%, the Qualifications teacher will sit down with the student and go over the part of the exam that was not fully understood and make sure the student understands all of the words and concepts in the chapter. The teacher will also make sure the student did not skip any concepts which would inhibit learning. This is done to help students so that they gain 100% certainty.

If a student is having difficulty in class in a particular subject, the teacher may send the child to Qual for assistance in finding out why the student is not progressing. Qual staff will intensively work with the student to determine what is going on and work with them one-on-one until they have grasped the subject matter and are ready to move on.

Last, Qual is also used to make sure that each student is on target in his/her individual school program. Qual keeps track of each student’s entire program and makes sure that he/she is moving at a smooth and comfortable pace.
Sounds like a star rated checkout to me.

Boy, Co$ must really be kissing Smith's ass. He hasn't been in that long, and is already turning over his kids -- not to mention big bucks.

DELPHI TIE CONFIRMED

http://newvillageacademy.org/_bin/curri ... erview.cfm
NVA uses the Heron Basics Program, which covers reading, writing, handwriting, phonics and spelling, all done in concert with a high volume of literature, writing and reading.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heron_Books
Heron Books is an assumed business name of Delphi Schools Inc.[1], under which they publish many paperback books for teachers, students, and home schoolers, as well as single-subject dictionaries for all grade levels. It is a trademark owned by Northwest Research, Inc.[2], which is another assumed business name of Delphi Schools Inc.[1]

Several of Heron Books published works for students are based on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. The Heron Basics Program is listed on the website of the Delphi Academy as their basis of instruction. Delphi Schools is a private school system licensed by Applied Scholastics, another Scientology-related entity.

Heron Books is listed in the World Institute of Scientology Enterprises directory, with Scientologist and founding headmaster of the Delphian School in Sheridan Oregon, Alan Larson, as the contact. [3] In the past, Heron Books did also publish Scientology texts, like the "Second Dynamic" book.

Defamer:
What would a week at Defamer HQ be without a Scientology scandal?
...a curriculum comprising a little bit of everything — Montessori here, constructivism there, and a liberal dollop of something called "study technology" developed by none other than education pioneer "L.R. Hubbard."

DIGG here. The Chanology article credits OCMB with turning up info about the Scilons on staff! Props to Daisy for posting about that. :thumleft:
